UNIT 11: WHAT TIME IS IT?
Lesson 1: Part 1-2
I. Objectives:
Knowledge: 
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to ask and answer question about time.
2. Skills: 
- Develop Ps speaking and listening skills
3. Language focus:
- Sentence Pattern: What time is it? It’s + hour + minute.
- Vocabulary: time, what time, get up, o’clock, have breakfast/ lunch/ dinner.
II. Teaching aids:
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.
2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.
III. Teaching processes:

 I. Warm up: Play “jumbled letters” game
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat.
- Tell Ps that they are going to learn to ask and answer questions about time.
- Ask Ps to identify the characters in 4 pictures on page 6 and ask:
+ Who are they? 
+ Where are they? 
+ And What are they talking about?
- Teach some new words:
 time: thời gian
 what time: mấy giờ?
 get up: thức dậy
 o’clock: giờ đúng
 breakfast: bữa ăn sáng
+ Teacher read first as a model and ask the Ps to repeat
+ Have the Ps repeat in groups and individuals 
- Open the tape and have the Ps listen the sound of the words.
- Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking
- Instruct Ps to translate the dialogue into Vietnamese.
Point and say
- Tell Ps that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about time.
- Instruct how to ask and answer questions about time .
+ Ask: What time is it?
+ Answer: It’s + hour + minute.
- T practices as a model and ask Ps to practice in choral, groups and pairs. Correct Ps’ error pronunciation
- Answer keys:

 It’s seven o’clock.

 It’s seven fifteen.

 It’s seven twenty-five.

 It’s seven thirty.

* Work in pairs. Ask your partners what time it is.
- Tell Ps that they are going to ask and answer questions about time, using What time is it? - It’s + hour + minute.
- Ask Ps to work in pairs.
- Have Ps write the answer on the board.
- Have the whole class to read aloud the answers on the board. Correct the pronunciation

I. Objectives:

- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to ask and answer question about time.
2. Skills: 
- Develop Ps speaking and listening skills
3. Language focus:
- Vocabulary and structures: review
II. Teaching aids:
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.
2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.
III. Teaching processes:

I. Warm up: Play the game “jumbled letters”
II. New lesson:
4. Listen and tick
- Tell Ps that they are going to listen to three dialogues about times and tick the correct pictures.
- Have Ps look at the pictures on page 7 to identify the time. Have them say the times aloud. Check comprehension. 
- Open the tape and have Ps listen the sound of the words
- Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ps to listen and tick.
- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.
- Answers: 1b 2b 3a
5. Look and write
- Tell Ps that they are going to write the answers to the question What time is it? with the picture cues.
- Have Ps look at the clock and the answer in 1. Then have them look at the other clocks and use the appropriate words to complete the answers. Check comprehension.
- Ask Ps to do the task. Go around and offer help.
- Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class.
- Ask Ps to read the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give comments.
- Have the whole class read the sentences chorally to reinforce their pronunciation. 
Answers: 2.It’s ten twenty. 3.It’s ten thirty.
 4.It’s eleven fifty.
Let’s sing
- Tell Ps that they are going to sing the song “What time is it?”.
- Have Ps read each line of the lyrics. Check comprehension.
- Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words.
- Play the tape again for Ps to do choral and individual repetition of the song by line.
- Ask Ps to sing in choral
- Have Ps practice singing in groups.
- Have class sing the song again to reinforce their pronunciation.
III. Consolidation
- Retell the content of the lesson.
IV. Homework
- Do exercises in the workbook. Prepare the next period.

- By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to ask and answer questions about daily routines.
2. Skills: 
- Develop Ss reading, writing and listening skills
3. Language focus:
- Vocabulary: Review
II. Teaching aids:
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.
2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.
III. Teaching processes:

I. Warm up: Play the game: Order the words
II. New lesson:
4. Listen and draw the time
- Have Ps look at 5 pictures on page 9. Tell Ps that they are going to listen to Tom’s daily routine and draw the hands of the clocks. Focus their attention on the pictures and discuss with them what Tom does everyday. Then tell them to look at the clock in each picture and explain that they have to draw the hands to show the time.
- Open the tape and listen the sound of the words
- Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ps to listen and draw the hands to show the time (tell Ps that they should focus on the times the activities happen).
- Ask some questions to ensure Ps’ comprehension of the listening text.

5. Draw and write the time
- Tell Ps that they are going to draw the time and write about their daily routines”.
- Ask Ps to look at 4 pictures and questions on page 9 and identify what daily routines they are going to write about. 
- Ask Ps to do the task (draw the hands of the clocks to show the times they usually do these activities, after that get them to write the answers to the questions, using the clocks they have just drawn). Check understanding.
- Have Ps trade the answers in pairs for correction
- Call on some Ps to report their answers. Others listen and comment.
- Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation

Let’s play:
- Tell Ps that they are going to play the game “Pass the secret!”. Follow the procedure in Games in introduction.
- Divide the class into groups of six or seven, ask them to sit in in circles.
- T explain how to play the game: P1 in each circle whispers a sentence to P2 (Ex: I get up at six o’clock). Then P2 whispers the same sentence to P3. Continue until the last P has heard the sentence and said it aloud. The group that says the sentence correctly in the shortest time will win the game.
- Call on one group to act out the game in front of the class.
