- Phonics: subject and subjects.

Lesson 1 (3-4-5)
I. Objectives:
Knowledge: 
- By the end of the lesson, students will have been able to ask and answer questions about school subjects.
2. Skills: 
- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
3. Language focus:
- Vocabulary and structures: review
II. Teaching aids:
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.
2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.
III. Teaching processes:

I. Warm up: Play the game “jumbled letters”
II. New lesson:
4. Listen and tick
- Have pupils look at the pictures on page 53. Elicit the identification of the characters in the pictures and the characters’ words. Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the pictures they hear. 
- Open the tape and listen the sound of the words
- Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ss to listen and tick.
- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.
- Answers: 1b 2a 3c
5. Look and write
- Have pupils look at 3 pictures on Page 53. Get Ss to identify the characters in the pictures.
- Tell Ss that they are going to read and get information to write the missing words in sentences.
- Ss read silently and complete the sentences.
- Ss trade their answers within pairs or groups for correction
- Ask Ss to read the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give comments.
- Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the reading text.
- Have the whole class read the sentences chorally to reinforce their pronunciation. 
Answers: 1.Monday/ Vietnamese, Science and English.
 2.Wednesday/ has Maths, IT and Music.
 3.Friday/ have Maths, Science and Art. 
Let’s sing
- Put the large piece of paper with the song “What day is it today?”, written on it and stick on the board. Tell pupils that they are going to sing the Song.
- Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words.
- Play the tape again for pupils to sing each line of the rhythm. Have pupils point to the corresponding words while they are repeating.
- Ask Ss to sing in choral
- Have Ss practice singing in groups.
- Call on one group to perform the song at the front of the class. The rest of the class sing the song and clap the rhythm.
- Have class sing the song again to reinforce their pronunciation.
III. Consolidation
- Asking Ps to focus on the structure once again.
- Retell the content of the lesson.
IV. Homework
- Do exercises in the workbook. Learn by heart the new words and structures.
- Play the game
- Identify the characters in each picture

- Structures: When do you have + name of subject? I have it on + days.
II. Teaching aids:
1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette.
2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

I. Warm up: Sing the song “What day is it today?”
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat
- Ask Ss to identify the characters in 4 pictures on page 54 and ask:
+ Who are they? 
+ Where are they? 
+ And What are they talking about?
- Teach vocabulary:
 lesson: bài học
+ Teacher read as a model and have the Ss repeat
+ Ask the Ss to repeat in groups, individuals
- Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words.
- Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking
- Instruct Ss to translate the dialogue into Vietnamese. 
2. Point and say
- Have Ss look at the pictures on page 54
- Instruct how to ask and answer questions about when someone has a subject.
+ Ask: When do you have + name of subject?
+ Answer: I have it on + days.
- T practices as a model and ask Ss to practice in choral, groups and pairs. Correct Ss’ error pronunciation

- Tell pupils that they are going to revise what they have learnt in Lessons 1 and 2, using facts about themselves. 
- Ask them to work in pairs and ask and answer the questions: What subjects do you have today? When do you have + name of subject? Who is your + name of subject + teacher? 
- Call on a few pairs to role-play in front of the class. Correct pronunciation, if necessary.

4. Listen and number
- Have pupils look at 4 pictures on page 55. Elicit the identification of the characters in the pictures and the characters’ words. Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the pictures they hear. 
- Open the tape and listen the sound of the words
- Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ss to listen and number.
- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.

5. Look and write 
- Set the scene: “you are going to read the paragraph and fill the gaps, using the timetable cues.”
- Ask Ss to look at the timetable and do the task (write the suitable words in the blanks)
- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary
- Have Ss trade the answers in pairs for correction
- Call on some Ss to report their answers. Others listen and comment.
- Make a few questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the sentences.
- Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation

- Tell Ss that they are going to play the game Puzzle
- Divide Ss into 3 groups of five and give each group an extra board which has the puzzle

- Focus Ps’ attention on the letters colored differently in the words subject and subjects.
- Introduce the sounds /ct/ and /cts/. 
- Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words.
- Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking
2. Listen and tick. Then write and say aloud.
- Have Ss look at the sentences on page 56
- Tell Ss that they are going to listen to the recording, tick the correct answers and write the words in the blanks.
- Give Ss a few seconds to read the sentences in silence and guess the words to fill the gaps.
- Play the recording 2 times for Ss to listen and tick, then write in the blanks	
- Play the recording again pupils check their answers. 
- Get pupils to read the sentences aloud.

3. Let’s chant
- Introduce the chant “What subjects do you have today?”
- Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words.
- Play the tape again for pupils to read each line of the Chant. Have pupils point to the corresponding words while they are repeating.
- Ask Ss to chant in choral
- Have Ss practice chanting in groups.
- The Ss chant and do the action.
- Call on one group to perform the song at the front of the class. The rest of the class sing the song and clap the rhythm.
- Have class chant again to reinforce their pronunciation.
