Lesson 3 (4-5-6)

Week: 12 Period: 45 Date of preparation: 07/11/2015 Date of teaching: UNIT 7: WHAT DO YOU LIKE DOING? Lesson 2 (4-5-6) I. Objectives: 1. Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson, students will have been able to ask and answer questions about someone’s hobbies. 2. Skills: - Develop Ss reading, writing and listening skills 3. Language focus: - Vocabulary: Review II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette. 2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Play the game: Order the words II. New lesson: 4. Listen and number - Have pupils look at 4 pictures on page 49. Elicit the identification of the characters in the pictures and the characters’ words. Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the pictures they hear. - Open the tape and listen the sound of the words - Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ss to listen and number. - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. Answer keys: a2 b4 c1 d3 5. Look and write - Ask Ss to identify the characters in 4 pictures on page 49 - Set the scene: “you are going to read the questions and fill the gaps, using the picture cues.” - Ask Ss to look at 4 pictures and do the task (write the suitable words in the blanks) - Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary - Have Ss trade the answers in pairs for correction - Call on some Ss to report their answers. Others listen and comment. - Make a few questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the sentences. - Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation Answers: 1. riding a bike 2. flying a kite 3. taking photographs 4. playing badminton Let’s play: - Tell Ss that they are going to play the game What’s your hobby? - Divide Ss into groups of six. Ask them to line up in rows. - Stick a large sheet of paper with nine hobbies on the board and ask Ss to look at it. - T introduce the game and guide Ss the way to play the game: One pupil in group A will mime one of the phrases on the board and ask What’s my hobby? The other groups guess the hobby, put a tick next to the right one and say the answer. The pupils of Group A say Yes, that’s right/ No, that’s wrong. The quickest group will get five points. The group that gets the most points wins. - Ask Ss to play the game in groups - T give comments III. Consolidation - Summary the lesson IV. Lesson 3 (1-2-3) I. Objectives: Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson, students will have been able to pronounce the sounds of the letters fl and pl in the words flying and playing respectively. 2. Skills: - Develop Ss writing and listening skills 3. Language focus: - Vocabulary and structures: Review - Phonics: flying and playing. II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette. 2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Play the game: What’s your hobby? II. New lesson: Listen and repeat - Focus Ps’ attention on the letters colored differently in the words flying and playing. - Introduce the sounds /fl/ and /pl/. - Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words. - Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking 2. Listen and circle. Then write and say aloud. - Have Ss look at the sentences on page 50 - Tell Ss that they are going to listen to the recording, circle the correct answers and write the words in the blanks. - Give Ss a few seconds to read the sentences in silence and guess the words to fill the gaps. - Play the recording 2 times for Ss to listen and circle, then write in the blanks - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. - Get pupils to read the sentences aloud. Let’s chant - Introduce the chant “Flying a little kite” - Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words. - Play the tape again for pupils to read each line of the Chant. Have pupils point to the corresponding words while they are repeating. - Ask Ss to chant in choral - Have Ss practice chanting in groups. - The Ss chant and do the action. - Call on one group to perform the song at the front of the class. The rest of the class sing the song and clap the rhythm. - Have class chant again to reinforce their pronunciation. III. Consolidation - Summary the lesson IV. Look, listen and repeat. - Ask Ss to identify the characters in 4 pictures on page 52 and ask: + Who are the pupils? + Where are they? + And What are they talking about? - Open the tape and listen the sound of the words. - Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking - Instruct Ss to translate the dialogue into Vietnamese. 2.
