Aims and Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to ask and answer about what someone can do. - Develop speaking and listening skill. II. Language: - Vocabulary: swim, draw, dance, ride a bike, play the piano, use a computer, speak English, sing. - Structures: What can you do? I can (play badminton). III. Skill: Integrated skill - Focused skill: Speaking and listening. IV. Preparing materials: - Teacher book, work book, tape player, pictures, projector, word cards. V. Procedures: 1. Warm-up: (Tiết 1) - Greet Ss and check the class attendance. - Ask Ss to Ss sing the song on page 23 again to review the old lesson. - T listens and remarks. 2. Presentation: Look, listen and repeat - Ask Ss to open their book on page 24 and look at the picture. The others listen and remark. - Have whole class repeat all the phrases a few times to reinforce their pronunciation. 3. Practice: Look and Say - Ask Ss to look at pictures a, b, c and d on page 24. Help them to identify what the boy/girl can do in each picture. - Do the task with one student as a model, using the sentence patterns in the bubbles. Teacher: What can you do? Student: I can use a computer. - Ask Ss to work in pairs to practise asking and answering the question What can you do?, using the phrase under each picture as a cue. - Select some pairs of Ss to demonstrate the task in front of the class. Monitor the activity, check Ss’ pronunciation and offer help when necessary. 4. Further Practice: (Tiết 2) a. Talk - Have Ss look at the pictures on page 25 and help them to identify what the boy/girl in each picture can do (Picture a: draw a dog; Picture b: use a computer; Picture c: ride a bike; Picture d: speak English). - Tell the Ss that they are going to practice asking and answering question about what someone can do. - Ask Ss to work in pairs, one student asks the question and the other gives the answer, using pictures cues. - Ask Ss to role play the questions and the answers about their own abilities. Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary. - Select some pairs of Ss to role play in front of the class. b. Listen and number: - Ask Ss to look at the pictures on page 25. Tell them that they are going to listen to different Ss talking about what they can do and number the correct pictures. - Help them to identify what the boy/girl in each picture can do (Picture a: ride a bike; Picture b: swim; Picture c: draw a parrot; Picture d: play the piano). - Play the recording through for Ss to listen. - Play the recording again for Ss to do the task. - Play the recording once more for Ss to check their answers. - Ask Ss to exchange their answers with their partners before reporting them to the class. - Read out the answers to the class. Aims and Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to pronounce correctly the sound of the letters an and that of the letters an’t; and to listen and to read for specific information. II. Language: - Vocabulary: fly, run, rabbit - Structures: I can ride a bike. I can’t play the piano. - Phonics: can can’t III. Skill: Integrated skill - Focused skill: Listening, reading and writing. IV. Preparing materials: - Teacher book, tape player, pictures, word cards, projector. V. Procedures: 1. Warm-up: (Tiết 1) - Ask Ss to say what they can or can’t do, using I can_____./ I can’t _________. - T listens and remarks. 2. Presentation: Listen and repeat - Have Ss open the book page 26. Draw Ss’ attention to the sound of the letters an as in can and that of the letter an’t as in can’t. Tell them to listen and pronounce these sounds correctly. - Ask Ss to look at the chant on the book. Pronounce the focused sounds a few times as a model. - Play the recording for Ss to listen to and repeat each line of the chant. Repeat the step when necessary. - T elicits the new words and structures by asking Ss to speak out: + fly: bay + run: chạy + rabbit: con thỏ * Form: I can (ride a bike). Practice: Listen and tick - Tell Ss that they are going to listen to Nam and Linda talking about their abilities or inabilities and tick the correct answers. - Play the recording through for Ss to listen. - Play the recording again for Ss to do the task. - Play the recording once more for Ss to check their answers. - Ask Ss to exchange their answer with their partners before reporting them to the class. - Announce the answers to the class. Tell them that they are going to read the dialogue and complete the blank spaces under the pictures. Explain the meaning of √ and x in the pictures ( √: can; x: can’t). Ask Ss to refer to number 3 as the example. - Let Ss read the dialogue and do the task individually. Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary. - Ask Ss to exchange their answers with their partners to find out possible answers. - Ask some Ss to report their answers to the class. - Announce the answers to the class. Quan ⃰ Let’s play: Guessing game - Ask Ss look at the picture in their book and tell them that they are going to play the guessing game. - Check first if Ss can recognize the animals in the picture. Point to the picture and ask some questions about the animals. - Explain how the game is played. Divide the class into group of 5. One Ss in each group says two sentences about the animals in the picture, using can and can’t, then ask What is it?. The Ss of the other groups look at the picture and guess. The group that gives the right question and answer gets 5 points. - The group take turn to ask and answer questions. Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary. - The group that gets the most points will win. - T listens and remarks. 5.
