I. Warm-up:
-Ss display their word cards for the game The Weather Sentences. Then they use them to ask and answer questions about the weather.
II. New lesson:
1. Look listen and repeat.
- Have pupils to open their books on page 51 and look at the pictures. Set the context: Mai and Akio are talking about the different weather in their countries.Ask Ss to observe the pictures and elicit their comments on the seasons. Read the lines and check pupils’comprehension.
- Play the recording for pupils to listen all the way through.
- Play the recording twice again for pupils to repeat sentence by sentence.
- Divide the class into two groups to take turns to say the sentences in each picture.
- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat to reinforce their pronunciation.
- Feed back.
2. Point, ask and answer.
- Ask Ss to read the example and elicit their prompts to complete the speech bubbles.
- Write the questions and the answer on the board and get Ss to repeat them a few times.
+ What’s summer like in your country? – - It’s often hot. There is much rain.
- Get Ss to get the information from the chart. Teach the word: spring, summer, autumn, winter, warm, rain, wind. Check their reading comprehension.
- Model the task with the whole class, using the examples. Repeat the step a few times. Call some open pairs to repeat the step with all the pictures.
- Have pupils practise in pairs take turns to ask and answer questions about the weather and seasons.
- Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation and offer help when necessary.
- Feedback.
WEEK 28 Period: 101 Monday March 24th 2014 UNIT 16: The Weather and Seasons Lesson 2: Period 2 (part 3 and 4) (Class: 5A, 5C, 5B, 5D) I. Overview: 1. OBJECTIVES: -By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to pronounce correctly the sounds of the letters or and those of the letters ol and to listen and number the pictures. 2. LANGUAGE FOCUS: - Vocabulary: told, fold, 3. TEACHING AIDS: - Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit16, Page 49, 50. - Audio and visual aids: Recordings, flashcards. II. Recall the meaning of the words and pre-teach: told, fold.Get Ss to repeat each word a few times. Do the first example with the class. - Set the time and let Ss do the task independently( in five minutes). - Let pupils check their answers in pairs. - Call on some pupils to report answers and the others give comments. Pause after each part to give Ss sufficient time to select and write the numbers. - Replay the recording for Ss to check their answers. - Get Ss to check their answers in pairs. LANGUAGE FOCUS: - Vocabulary: +major, province, dry. 3. TEACHING AIDS: - Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit 16, Page 52,53. - Audio and visual aids: Recordings, flashcards. II. PROCEDURE: TIME Teacher's activities Students' activities 5’ 16’ 11’ 1’ 1’ I. Warm-up: - Ss sing along the song “ The weather Song” II. New lesson: 3. Read and do the tasks. Task a; - Have pupils open the Student’s book on Page 52. Set the context: You are going to read an informative text on the weather and seasons in diffrent parts of Viet Nam and do the tasks that follow. Teach vocabulary: major, province, dry.Write the key words on the board and get Ss to repeat a few times. - Read the passage, pausing at times to check pupils’comprehension. - Have Ss work individually in five minutes read and do Task a. They are to read and get the missing information and complete the chart. Move around to monitor the activity. - Have Ss check their answer in pairs. - Feedback. - Call on some pupils to report their answers to the class and the others give comments. Check pupils’ comprehension of the texts. - Ss work independently(in 5 minutes). Remind SS to draft their writing before copying on to their note book. - Go around the class room to monitor the activity. - Call out some Ss to read their writing to the class. Sentence patterns: + How did you get to your hometown? - By________. 3. TEACHING AIDS: - Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit 17, Page 54. - Audio and visual aids: Recordings, flashcards, some pictures. II. PROCEDURE: Time Teacher's activities Students' activities 5’ 13’ 15’ 1’ 1’ I. Warm-up: - Ss play the game “Slap the board” with the words related to the means of transport. II. New lesson: 1. Look, listen and repeat. Before listening: - Have pupils to open their books on page 54. Focus their attention on the title of the unit, the pictures and the texts. Point to each picture and elicit students’ comments on the pictures.Then say: Tony is meeting Nam at school after Tet. You are going to listen to their dialogues about the trips to thier hometown. Teach the new vocabulary: hometown, province, coach, far. Write the new words on the board and get Ss to say the words a few times. Read each line in the pictures, pausing at times to check pupils’ comprehension. Make sure that Ss can understand the situation and the language in each picture. While listening: - Play the recording for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books. - Play the recording twice again for pupils to repeat the lines . - Have pupils read the lines in groups to take turn to say the lines from Tony and Nam. - Have some groups repeat at front of the class, other pupils give comments. - Feedback.
