I. Warm-up:

- Ss do the crossword puzzle on page 26

II. New lesson:

3. Read the passage and do the tasks.

Task a:

- Have pupils open the Student’s book on Page 25. Get Ss to look at the pictures and the title. Tell the pupils the reading purpose: You are going toread a passage about common accidents which may happen to young children.

 - Recall the meaning of the familiar words and teach the key words; roll off, a cradle, a car seat carries, crawl up or down. Write the key words on the board and get Ss to repeat a few times. Point to each picture to elicit pupils’ comments.

Give Ss a few seconds to read through the task. Read the passage, pausing at times to check students’ comprehension. Make sure they Ss understand the task: They should skim the passage to get the general idea to select the suitable title.

- Have Ss do task a independently in 3 minutes. Move around to monitor the activity and offer help as necessary.

- Have Ss check their answer in pairs. Call on some pupils to report their answers to the class and the others give comments.

UNIT 13: Accident Prevention
Lesson 3: Period 1 (part 1 and 2)

I. Overview:
1. OBJECTIVES: 
-By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to ask and answer questions about accident prevention.
2. LANGUAGE FOCUS:
a. Vocabulary:
+bare foot, knife, start.
b. Sentence patterns:
+ Why shouldn’t they jump into the river? – Because they may drown.
3. TEACHING AIDS:
- Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit 13, Page 24.
- Audio and visual aids: Recordings, flashcards.

I. Warm-up: 
 - Ss play the Matching game. SS display their word cards and use these cards to play a game of matching.
II. New lesson:
1. Look listen and repeat.
- Have pupils to open their books to page 24. Get Ss to look at the pictures and read the context sentence. Elicit their comments on the pictures and set the context: The pupils in Mr Loc’s class are having a lesson on “Accident Prevention for Children”. Read the lines in the pictures and check students’ comprehension. Teach the word drown and get Ss to repeat each word a few times.
- Play the recording for pupils to listen all the way through.
- Play the recording twice again for pupils to repeat sentence by sentence.
- Divide the class into two groups to take turns to say the lines in the pictures.
- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat to reinforce their pronunciation.
2. Point, ask and answer.
- Ask Ss to read the example and elicit their prompts to complete the speech bubbles.
- Write the question and answer on the board and get Ss to repeat them a few times in turn.
 + Why shouldn’t they jump into the river?
 – Because they may drown.
- Point to the pictures, read the prompts and check pupils’ comprehension.Recall and pre –teach the new vocabulary: bare foot, knife, start. Get Ss to repeat each prompt a few times.
- Model the task with the whole class. 
 - Call on a few pairs go though the task with the rest of the characters in the pictures. Focus on pronunciation and fluency.
- Have pupils practise in pairs to take turn to ask and answer questions about accident prevention.
- Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation and offer help when necessary.
- Call on some pairs to perform the task in front of the class, others observe and give comments if possible. Praise if the pair do well.

1. Accidents can happen to babies anywhere in the home.
2. Fall is the most common type of accident to babies.
3, The biggest danger for babies is falling down the balcony, the stairs or out of window.

- Have pupils open the Student’s book on Page 26 and read the guiding questions. Check their comprehension and show them how to do the task: They should finish the writing frame relying on the dialogues in Lesson 1.
- Set time (in 5 minutes) and get Ss to work individually. Remind Ss that they should write a draft before copying it on to a clean sheet of paper for the class display later. Go around the classroom to monitor the activity and offer help as necessary. 
- Call on a few Ss to read their writing to the class. Then have the class display. 
- Correct mistake(s) and give Ss some remarks.
III. Summary: 
 - In this lesson you have read an informative text on fall prevention for younger children and write a message.

- Ss do the writing task at home for the class display in the next lesson.

- Ss play the game “ Slap the board” with the words about animals.
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat.
Before listening:
- Have pupils to open their books on page 27. Focus their attention on the title of the unit, the pictures and the texts. Get Ss to identify the character animals in the pictures and discuss what is happening in each picture. Recall the familiar vocabulary and pre-teach the new words: crow, fox, piece of meat, beak, drop, pick up. Write the vocabulary on the board and get Ss to repeat each word a few times. Recall the usage of first, then, next, finally. Read each line in the pictures, pausing at times to check pupils’ comprehension. Make sure that Ss can understand the situation and the language in each picture.
While listening:
- Play the recording for pupils to listen through.
- Play the recording twice again for pupils to repeat the lines.
- Have pupils read the lines in groups of three to take turn to say the lines in the pictures.
- Have some groups repeat at front of the class, other pupils give comments.
- Feedback.
After listening:
- Let pupils listen and repeat once again.

- Have Ss to open their book on page 27. 
- Get Ss to read the chart and the examples. Elicit their prompts to complete the speech bubbles.
- Write the question and answer on the board and get Ss to repeat them a few times.

- Have pupils practise in pairs ask and answer the question about the sequence of events in the story. Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation and offer help when necessary.
- Call on some pairs to demonstrate the task in front of the class, others observe and give comments if possible.
- Feedback.

3. Listen and tick:
- Have pupils look at the pictures on Page 28 and give them a few seconds to read the instruction and look at the pictures. Tell them the purpose of listening (You are going to listen four dialogues in which two Ss are talking about an animal story.You should listen and tick the appropriate picture in each number) .
- Point to the pictures and elicit pupils comments.
- Play the recording twice: once for Ss to listen all the way through and once for them to do the task.(pause after each part for Ss to have sufficient time to tick the picture).
- Replay the recording for Ss to check their answers. 
- Get Ss to correct the answers in pairs.( 1 minute)
- Ask some Ss to report their answers to the class.( If there is disagreement on any answer, play the related part of the recording again).
- Comment: Read out the correct answers to the class.

4.Talk:
- Ask Ss to open their book on page 28. 
- Tell them about the activity: Now you are going to read the first part of the story “Little Red Riding Hood”. Then observe the pictures and tell the rest of the story. Read the first part of the story. Stop at times to check pupils’ comprehension. Teach the new vocabulary: Little Red Riding Hood, in the other end of the village. Write the vocabulary on the board and get Ss to repeat each word a few times. Check if Ss know the story. If they do not, tell the story, using a mixture of English and Vietnamese to help Ss understand the story.
- Do the first Ex with the whole class in order to give them a clear idea of how the activity works.
Teacher: What story is it?
Pupils: Little Red Riding Hood.
Teacher: What happened in this picture?
Pupils: Little Red Riding Hood met a wolf in the forest.
Teacher: Very good. On the way to her grandmother’s cottage Little Red Riding Hood met a wolf in the forest. She told it about her trip.
- Guide Ss to work in pairs in three minutes to take turn to tell the rest of the story, using the pictures provided. Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation and offer help when necessary.
- Feed back: Call on some pairs to report the results in front of the class. T give remark or correct mistake(s).
Notes:
a.On the way to her grandmother’s cottage Little Red Riding Hood met a wolf in the forest.
b. The wolf ran very fast to the grandmother’s cottage.
c. It swallowed the grandmother. The it lay in the bed to pretend Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother.
d, Little Red Riding Hood came to see her grandmother in the bed. The wolf talked to her. Then it jumped out of the bed to swallow her.
e. Luckily, a hunter came. he killed the wolf, and saved Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother.
III. Summary.
- In this lesson you have learnt to listen and tick the pictures, look at the pictures and tell story “Little Red Riding Hood”.
