Unit 10: When will Sport Day be?

Lesson 3 (1 - 3)

A. Aim:

- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to:

 + ask and answer questions about What someone is going to do/play on Sports Day

* Skills:

- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills

* Language focus:

* Teaching aids:

Pictures, poster, cassette (overhead, computer)

B. Procedure:

I. Warm up:

Network

 ‘When did you ‘go to the ‘zoo?

 I ‘went there ‘yesterday.

 .

II. New lesson:

1. Listen and repeat:

- Have sts to look at the overhead’s screen, draw their attention to the sentences

- Play CD for sts listen

- Have sts repeat the focused on the sentence stress a few times.

- Play the recording twice and ask Ss to repeat

- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary/ correct typical pronunciation errors.

- Call on someone to read aloud.

- Give feedback

2. Listen and underline the stressed words. Then say the sentences aloud:

- Have pupils look at questions and answer given

- Tell sts that they are going to listen and underline the stressed words

- Play CD – sts listen and underline

- Get sts’ answer

- Give feedback

Period: 62 Unit 10: When will Sports day be?
 Lesson 2 (1 - 3)
A. Aim:
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: 
	+ ask and answer questions about what someone is going to do/ play on Sports day
* Skills: 
- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
* Language focus:
- Sentence Patterns: - What are you going to do on Sports Day? 
	I’m going to ? 
- Vocabulary: 
* Teaching aids:
cards, picture, cassette/ computer (overhead)
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
Sing the song: “When will sports Day be?”
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat:
- Set the scene:
- Elicit the context of the picture
- Have sts look at the pictures and guess what the story is about
- Check comprehension by pointing at each picture to elicit the content for each picture
- Play CD for sts listen and follow in their books
- Play again – sts repeat
- Some Ss role play and the others comment.
- Ask Ss to role play
- Ask Ss to role play before the class.
=> Elicit the modal sentences:
	What are you going to do on Sports Day?
	I’m going to..
2. Point and say:
- Have pupils look at pictures with activities
- Run through the names of activities
- Model (a)
	A: What are you going to do on Sports Day?
	B: I’m going to play basketball.
- Have sts to repeat the sentences a few times.
- Ask sts work in pairs to practice asking and answering base on the model.
- Call some pairs say aloud in front of the class.
- Check sts’ mistake when necessary.
- Make a few questions to check pupils’ comprehension of the language.
- Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation.
3. Let’s talk.
- Have stst read aloud 2 questions given
- Tell the class that they are going to practice further by asking and answering questions relate to festivals and activities
- Run through.
- Give instruction. 
- Model:
	A: When will sports day be?
	B: It’ll be on Friday.
	A: What are you going to do?
	B: I’m going to .
- Give sts 3 mins for sts practice 
- Get sts to work in groups of three to interact.
- Call a few pairs to practise in front of the class.
- Check ss’ pronunciation.

Lesson 2 (4 - 6)
A. Aim:
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to practice: 
	+ ask and answer questions about what someone is going to do/ play on Sports day
* Skills: 
- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
* Language focus:
- Sentence Patterns: - When/ where will .. be? 
 + It’ll be .. ..
 - What are you going to do?
 + I’m going to 
* Teaching aids:
	Subjects books
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
Lucky numbers
What are you going to do?
play chess
play badminton
sing
play football
dance
II. New lesson:
1. Listen and number:
- Have pupils look at the pictures with activities given
- Get sts say aloud
- Tell the pupils that they are going to listen to 4 dialogues and number them
- Play the recording twice for pupils listen and number 
- Compare the answers with the partners.	
- Play the recording again pupils check their answers. 
- T gets the answer:
- Have pupils act out the dialogues in pairs or groups for correction.
- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.
Answer: 	1- d; 2 - b	; 3 – c; 4 - a
2. Write about you: 
- Have pupils look at 4 questions given
- Ask pupils what they do this part
- Tell them that they are going to write the answer base on the questions about time, place and activities of a festival
- Call on a pupil to write on the board and other pupils write in the notebooks in individuals.
- Have pupils discuss their answers in pairs for correction.
- Have pupils comment the answer on the board.
- Call some pupils read aloud their work in front of the class.
- Have the class chorally read each line.
	* Suggested answer:
	1. It’ll be on Sunday.
	2. It’ll beat school yard.
	3. I’m going to play chess.
	4. They are going to play football.

- Check comprehension (When? What sports? How are they practice?)
- Play the tape a few times.
- Ask sts to read aloud each line in the chant and clap their hands.
- Ask them to listen again and repeat.
- Have sts practice the chant in groups.
- Call each group perform.
- Correct and comment
- Play the tape once to reinforce their pronunciation.
III. Reinforcement 
- In this lesson, sts have learned how to make and read sentence stress in the right way
- Practice chanting.
- Do ex D in WB.

Period :65 
Unit 10: What are you reading?
Lesson 3 (4 - 6)
A. Aim:
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: 
	+ further practice reading and writing about sport day.
* Skills: 
- Develop Ss reading and writing and drawing skills
* Language focus:
- Revise from L1 + L2
* Teaching aids:
Pictures, poster, cassette (overhead, computer)
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
Reading the chant “What are you reading?”
II. New lesson:
1. Read and tick:
- Show picture about Tom with the passage and elicit the content
- Give instruction.
- Elicit: 	Who are they?
	 	What sports?
- Ask sts to read the text to get information 
- Have sts read the sentences given below to compare with the information in the text to tick what each person is going to play.
- Have sts do the task individually
- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary.
- Ask sts to work in pairs to check the answer 
- Call on some sts to report their answers. 
* Key: 	Mai: table tennis; Nam: football; Phong: football
Linda: table tennis; Tony: basketball;	Peter: badminton;Tom: swimming
2. Write about Sports Day:
- Have sts read the beginning phrases for sentences
- Have them answer the following questions
	+ When will sports day be?
	+ What are you going to do?
- Get some sts answer aloud
- Checking understanding how to write
- Have sts write in 10 mins
- Remind sts how to write in correct way (capital letters, comma, full stop)
- Get sts swap and read their writing in pairs
- Invite two or three sts to read their writing task
- Get sts give feedback
- Check and correct

3. Project
	Draw three sports and talk about them
- Ask sts to draw three sports and talk about them
- Elicit ideas about names of sports.
- Sts draw and talk
- Go around and check their work

4. Reinforcement: Colour the stars
- Have the class read the statements and check their comprehension
- Invite sts to read statements aloud
- Check their understanding the meaning
- Give them to colour about degree that they got after the Unit 10
- Getting their ideas about difficulties to help
