 Lesson 2 : 4, 5, 6

A. Aim:

- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to practice:

 ask and answer questions about what someone is like.

* Skills: - Develop Ss speaking and listening skills

* Language focus:

- Sentence Patterns: - What is he/ she like?

 + He’s / She’s . .

* Teaching aids: Subjects books

B. Procedure:

I. Warm up: Lucky numbers

1. What’s Tam like?

2. An Tiem

3. Snow White

4. the fox

5. Aladdin

II. New lesson:

1. Listen and write one word in each blank:

- Have pupils read the sentences and phrases given

- Get sts say aloud

- Tell the pupils that they are going to listen to 4 dialogues and write the words to complete the sentences about some characters’ chracstic.

- Play the recording twice for pupils listen and write the correct words.

- Compare the answers with the partners.

- Play the recording again pupils check their answers.

- T gets the answer:

- Have pupils act out the dialogues in pairs or groups for correction.

- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.

Answer: 1- kind ; 2 -clever ; 3 – hard- working; 4 - generous

2. Number the sentences in the correct order:

- Have pupils look and read the 5 sentences given

- checking understanding

- Ask pupils what they do this part

- Tell them that they are going to number them in correct order

- Set the time for sts do the task individually

- Have pupils discuss their answers in pairs for correction.

- Get sts answer about the order

 * Key:

 1. Minh is my classmate.

 2. She likes reading fairy tales in her free time.

 3. Her favourite fairy tale is The Story of Tam and Cam.

 4. It’s Vietnamese story about two girls.

 5. Their names are Tam and Cam

III. Reinforcement:

- Call some pupils read aloud their work in front of the class.

- Have the class chorally read each line.

- Do exs in C (WB)

Unit 8: What are you reading?
 Lesson 1 :(4 - 6)
A. Aim: - By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to further practice: 
	 + use the words and phrases related to the topics stories
	 + ask and answer questions about stories.
* Skills: - Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
* Language focus:
- Vocabulary: names of stories
* Teaching aids: Teacher’s: cards, cassette, computer (overhead)
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up: Play “Guessing” game
	Guess the names of stories
II. New lesson:
1. Listen and tick:
- Have sts to look at names of stories in the table given with 4 characters: Nam, Mai, Linda and Tom.
- Give instruction
- Play the recording twice for pupils listen and tick into the table with right names 
- Ask sts to compare the answers with the partner.	
- Play the recording again for sts to check their answers. 
- Announce the answers.
- Ask some questions to ensure sts’ comprehension of the listening text.
*Key: Nam: The Fox and the Crow
	 Mai: Aladdin and the magic lamp
	Linda: Snow White and seven dwarfs
	Tom: The story of Mai An Tiem	
2. Read and complete:
- Tell sts that they are going to complete the dialogue with the 5 words given.
- Give sts few seconds to read the dialogue in silence.
- Check comprehension and give feedback.
- Give sts time to do the task and go around and offer help if necessary
- Get sts to work in pairs.
- Get sts to swap and check their answers before checking as a class.
- Divide the class into two groups and get them to read aloud the dialogue
* Key: 1. free 2. reading 3. Snow 4. seven	5. like
III. Reinforcement:
- Practice reading the dialogue 
- Do Ex C in WB and give feedback

 Unit 8: What are you reading?
 Lesson 2 :(1 - 3)
A. Aim:
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: 
	+ ask and answer questions about what the character in a story is like
* Skills: 
- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
* Language focus:
- Sentence Patterns: - What’s he/she . like? 
 + He’s/ She’s ..
- Vocabulary: 
* Teaching aids:
cards, picture, cassette/ computer (overhead)
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
Answer 
	What’s your fovourite book/ story?
	It’s 
	What’s your favourite character?
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat:
- Set the scene:
- Elicit the context of the picture
- Have sts look at the pictures and guess what the story is about
- Check comprehension by pointing at each picture to elicit the content for each picture
- Play CD for sts listen and follow in their books
- Play again – sts repeat
- Some Ss role play and the others comment.
- Ask Ss to role play
- Ask Ss to role play before the class.
=> Elicit the modal sentences:
	Mai: What’s he like?
	Quan: He’s generous.
2. Point and say:
- Have pupils look at pictures with names of characters and their characstic
- Run through the names of characters and their characstic
- Explain the meaning of the words: hard – working, kind, clever, gentle
- Model (a)
	A: What’s An Tiem like?
	B: He’s hard - working.
- Have sts to repeat the sentences a few times.
- Ask sts work in pairs to practice asking and answering base on the model.
- Call some pairs say aloud in front of the class.
- Check sts’ mistake when necessary.
- Make a few questions to check pupils’ comprehension of the language.
- Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation.
3. Let’s talk.
- Have stst read aloud 4 questions given
- Tell the class that they are going to practice further by asking and answering questions relate to reading stories and the characters
- Run through.
- Give instruction. 
- Model:
	A: Do you like fairy tales?
	B: Yes, I do.
	A: What book are you reading?
	B: I’m reading Snow White and seven dwarf.
	A: What’s the main character like?
	B: She’s kind.
	A: Do you like her?
	B: Yes, I do.
- Give sts 3 mins for sts practice (about their thought)
- Get sts to work in groups of three to interact.
- Call a few pairs to practise in front of the class.
- Check ss’ pronunciation.
III. Reinforcement

 Lesson 3 (1 - 3)
A. Aim:
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: 
	+ say questions and answers with the correct sentence stress.
* Skills: - Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
* Language focus:
* Teaching aids: Pictures, poster, cassette (overhead, computer)
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up: Review sentence stress
	‘How do you ‘practice ‘speaking?
	By ‘speaking ‘English ‘every ‘day.
	.
II. New lesson:
1. Listen and repeat:
- Have sts to look at the overhead’s screen, draw their attention to the sentences 
- Play CD for sts listen
- Have sts repeat the focused on the sentence stress a few times.
- Play the recording twice and ask Ss to repeat
- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary/ correct typical pronunciation errors.
- Call on someone to read aloud.
- Give feedback
2. Listen and circle a or b. Then say the sentences:
- Have pupils read the questions and answers given
- Tell sts that they are going to listen and circle a or b to complete the answers
- Play CD– sts listen and circle
- Get sts’ answer
- Give feedback
 * Key: 1. a; 2. b; 3. a; 4. b
- Get sts say aloud
- Tell the pupils that they are going to read and mark sentence stress.
- Have sts do the task individually. 
- Compare the answers with the partners.

3. Let’s chant
- Show the chant “What are you reading?”
- Have sts run through the sentences
- Ask sts read aloud 
- Check comprehension (Who? What’s he/ she like?)
- Play the tape a few times.
- Ask sts to read aloud each line in the chant and clap their hands.
- Ask them to listen again and repeat.
- Have sts practice the chant in groups.
- Call each group perform.
- Correct and comment
- Play the tape once to reinforce their pronunciation.
 III. Reinforcement 
- In this lesson, sts have learned how to make and read sentence stress in the right way
- Practice chanting.
- Do ex D in WB.
