 Lesson 3 (4 - 7)

A. Aim:

- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to:

 + read and write the text about how and why they learn English.

* Skills:

- Develop Ss reading and writing and skills

* Language focus:

- Revise from L1 + L2

* Teaching aids:

Overhead, laptop

B. Procedure:

I. Warm up:

Saying the chant “How do you learn English?”

II. New lesson:

1. Read and tick True (T) or False (F):

- Ask sts to open their book on page 51

- Give instruction.

- Elicit:

 What’s kind of the reading text? – A passage

- Explain the meaning: guess, stick, understand, necessary, communication

- Ask sts to read the text.

- Have sts look and read the sentences given below

- Expalin what they have to do: read the passage and sentences to compare information if they are True or False

- Have sts do the task in pairs

- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary.

- Ask sts to work in pairs to check the answer

- Call on some sts to report their answers.

* Key:

 1 - T; 2 - F; 3 - T; 4 - T; 5- F

2. Write about how your friend learns English:

- Have sts read the phrases and words that start each sentence given

- Checking understanding how to complete the sentences

 - Have sts work in pairs to ask their friends how he/ she learns English

- Have sts write in 7 mins individually

- Remind sts how to write in correct way

- Go around to help

- Get sts swap and read their writing in pairs

- Invite two or three sts to read their answers aloud

- Get sts give feedback

- Check and correct

- Have sts discuss in groups of 4 how to learn English skills

- Have the class read the statements and check their comprehension

 Lesson 2 (4 - 6)
A. Aim:
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to practice: 
	+ asking and answer questions about the importance of learning English and how to learn English.
* Skills: 
- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
* Language focus:
- Sentence Patterns: - How do you practice .? 
 + I ..
 - Why do you learn English?
 + Because 
* Teaching aids:
	 (overhead, computer)
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
	Play “Charades” game
Explain how the game is played
Devide class into 2 teams to play the game
II. New lesson:
1. Listen and number:
- Have sts to look at 4 pictures given
- Elicit the activities in each picture 
- Give instruction.
- Play the recording twice for pupils listen and number in the correct order
- Ask sts to compare the answers with the partner.	
- Play the recording again for sts to check their answers. 
- Announce the answers.
- Ask some questions to ensure sts’ comprehension of the listening text.
*Key: 1.c 2.a 3. d	4. b	
2. Write about you: 
- Have pupils look at 5 questions given
- Ask pupils what they do this part
- Tell them that they are going to write the answer base on the questions about how and why they learn English
- Call on a pupil to write on the board and other pupils write in the notebooks in individuals.
- Have pupils discuss their answers in pairs for correction.
- Have pupils comment the answer on the board.
- Call some pupils read aloud their work in front of the class.
- Have the class chorally read each line.

	2. I read comic books.
	3. I write diary.
	4. I write new words.

A. Aim:
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: 
	+ say questions and answers with the correct sentences stress.
* Skills
- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
* Teaching aids:
	overhead, computer
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
	Read the sentences with correct sentence stress
	‘How many ‘lessons do you ‘have to’day?
	I ‘have ‘four.
II. New lesson:
1. Listen and repeat:
- Have sts to look at the overhead’s screen, draw their attention to the sentences stress
- Play CD for sts listen
- Have sts repeat the focused on the sentence stress a few times.
- Play the recording twice and ask Ss to repeat
- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary/ correct typical pronunciation errors.
- Call on someone to read aloud.
- give feedback
2. Listen and circle a or b. Then say the sentences:
- Have pupils read the words given
- Tell sts that they are going to listen and circle a or b to complete the sentences
- Play Cd – sts listen and circle
- Get sts’ answer
- Give feedback

- Get sts say aloud
- Tell the pupils that they are going to read and mark word stress for the sentences
- Have sts do the task individually. 
- Compare the answers with the partners.

3. Let’s chant
- Show the chant “How do you learn English?”
- Have sts run through the sentences
- Ask sts read aloud 
- Check comprehension (What skills? How they learn? Why?)
- Play the tape a few times.
- Ask sts to read aloud each line in the chant and clap their hands.
- Ask them to listen again and repeat.
- Have sts practice the chant in groups.
- Call each group perform.
- Correct and comment
- Play the tape once to reinforce their pronunciation.
 III. Reinforcement 
- Ask sts make out some more sentences and note the stressess
- Practice chanting.

Unit 8: What are you reading?
 Lesson 1 (1 - 3)
A. Aim:
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: 
	+ use the words and phrases related to the topics favourite books 
	+ ask and answer questions about what story/ book someone is reading.
* Skills: 
- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
* Language focus:
- Sentence Patterns: - What are you reading? 
 + I am reading . 
- Vocabulary: names of some stories
* Teaching aids:
	computer (overhead)
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
Network
Story
- Get sts tell the names of stories they know
- Give feedback and add more
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat:
- Have pupils look at the screen the dialogue between Peter and Tony
- Ask pupils the names of the characters and what they are doing 
-Tell them that they are going to hear Peter and Tony talking about a story
- Explain the meaning of the language practised. 
- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books. 
- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. Repeat the step a few times. 
- Some Ss role play and the others comment.
- Ask Ss to role play
- Ask Ss to role play before the class.
2. Point and say:
- Retell the names of stories given: 
- Play the CD twice for sts listen and repeat
- Explain the pattern:
	What are you reading?
	I’m reading___________.
- Run through the key words/ phrases
- Point at each picture and ask the question base on the model 
- Have sts practice asking and answering in pairs 
- Monitor the activity and help sts if they need
- Invite some pairs to speak to check their performance
- Give feedback
3. Let’s talk:
- Tell class that they are going to practice further by asking and answering questions about stories
- Get sts to work in pairs to act out to ask and answer
- Remind them to use the questions and answers in their books
