Unit 7: How do you learn English?

Lesson 1 (1 - 3)

A. Aim:

- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to:

 + use the words and phrases related to the topic “How do you learn English?”

 + ask and answer questions about how someone learn English.

* Skills:

- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills

* Language focus:

- Sentence Patterns: - How do you practice .?

 + I .

- Vocabulary:

* Teaching aids:

 Teacher’s: computer (overhead)

B. Procedure:

I. Warm up: Network reading

 listening talking

 speaking writing

II. New lesson:

1. Look, listen and repeat:

• Whole class: Have pupils look at the dialogue on the screen

- Ask pupils the names of the characters and what they are doing

-Tell them that they are going to hear Mai and Tom are talking about where they will go this weekend

- Explain the meaning of the language practised.

- Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books.

- Play the recording again for pupils to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. Repeat the step a few times.

- Some Ss role play and the others comment.

- Ask Ss to role play

- Ask Ss to role play before the class.

2. Point and say:

- Play the CD twice for sts listen and repeat

- Explain the pattern:

 How do you practice speaking English?

 I speak English everyday

- Explain and Run through the key words/ phrases: practice, write emails, short story

- Point at each picture and ask the question base on the model

- Have sts practice asking and answering in pairs

- Monitor the activity and help sts if they need

- Invite some pairs to speak to check their performance

- Give feedback

Unit 6: How many lessons do you have today?
Lesson 3 (4 - 7)
A. Aim:
- By the end of the lesson Ps will be able to: 
	+ further practice about asking and answering about how many and how often they have lessons.
* Skills: 
- Develop Ss reading and writing and drawing skills
* Language focus:
- Revise from L1 + L2
* Teaching aids:
Pictures, poster, cassette (overhead, computer)
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
Saying the chant “How often do you have ?”
II. New lesson:
1. Read and complete:
- Ask sts to open their book on page 45
- Give instruction.
- Elicit: 	Who is she?
	 	What is she talking about?
- Ask sts to read the text to get information to complete the sentences. 
- Have sts do the task individually
- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary.
- Ask sts to work in pairs to check the answer 
- Call on some sts to report their answers. 
* Key: 	1. August.
	 	2. Saturday and Sunday.

	4. Maths, Vietnamese, Music and English

2. Write about your school and lessons:
- Have sts read the beginning phrases for sentences
- Elicit some ideas about each sentence
- Get some sts answer aloud
- Checking understanding how to write
- Have sts write in 5 mins
- Remind sts how to write in correct way (capital letters, comma, full stop)
- Get sts swap and read their writing in pairs
- Invite two or three sts to read their writing task
- Get sts give feedback
- Check and correct
	* Suggested answer:
	My school started in September. I go to school from Monday to Friday. I have four lessons a day. I have Maths, Music, Vietnamese and English on Wednesday. I have Music on Thursday. I have English four times a week.
3. Project
	Write a letter to a pen friend to talk about your time table
- Ask ss to work in group to discuss how to write a letter
- Elicit ideas for model.
- Guide sts how to write

- Go around and check their work

4. * Reinforcement: Colour the stars
- Have the class read the statements and check their comprehension
- Invite sts to read statements aloud
- Check their understanding the meaning
- Give them to colour about degree that they got after the Unit 6

A. Aim:

	+ ask and answer questions about how someone learn English.

- Develop Ss speaking, reading and listening skills
* Language focus:
- Sentence Patterns: - How do you practice..?

* Teaching aids:

B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
 	 Pass the ball
	How do you practice? – I ..
II. New lesson:
1. Listen and tick
- Have sts to look 4 groups of pictures 
- Elicit the skill in each picture 
- Give instruction.
- Play the recording twice for pupils listen and tick the correct pictures
- Ask sts to compare the answers with the partner.	
- Play the recording again for sts to check their answers. 
- Announce the answers.
- Ask some questions to ensure sts’ comprehension of the listening text.

2. Read and complete:
- Tell sts that they are going to read and fill the gaps with the 5 words given.
- Give sts few seconds to read the text in silence.
- Check comprehension and give feedback.
- Give sts time to do the task and go around and offer help if necessary

- Get sts to swap and check their answers before checking as a class.

Lesson 2 (1 - 3)
A. Aim:

	+ ask and answer questions about the importance of learning English.
* Skills: 
- Develop Ss speaking and listening skills
* Language focus:
- Sentence Patterns: - Why do you learn English? 
 + Because I want to .
- Vocabulary: explore, take a boat trip, build sandcaste
 Teaching aids:
	Computer + overhead
B. Procedure:
I. Warm up:
Sing the song: “How do you learn English?”
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat:
- Set the scene:
- Elicit the context of the picture
- Have sts look at the pictures and guess what the story is about
- Check comprehension by pointing at each picture to elicit their answers for:
	+ Who are they?- Tom and Mai
	+ What is it? - Timetable
	+ What are they? – story books
- Play CD for sts listen and follow in their books
- Play again – sts repeat
- Some Ss role play and the others comment.
- Ask Ss to role play
- Ask Ss to role play before the class.
=> Elicit the model sentences:
	Nam: Why do you learn English?
	Linda: Because I want to sing English songs
2. Point and say:
- Have pupils look at pictures with reasons they learn English. 
- Run through the phrase words
- Use flashcards to teach the question and answer in the speech bubbles. Have sts repeat the words a few times.

- Give instruction
- Point to each picture and ask why they learn English
- Have sts to repeat the sentences a few times.
- Repeat the procedure with the second picture.

- Check sts’ mistake when necessary.
- Make a few questions to check pupils’ comprehension of the language.
- Have the whole class repeat all the phrases in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation.

- Tell the class that they are going to practice further by asking and answering questions about how and why they learn English
- Run through.
- Give instruction. 
- Model:
	How do you learn English? – I write new words, practice speaking everyday.
	Why do you learn English? – Because I want to talk with foreign friends
- Give sts 3 mins for sts practice (about themselves)
- Get sts to work in pairs to interact.
- Call a few pairs to practise in front of the class.
- Check ss’ pronunciation.
III. Reinforcement
Ask sts to retell why and how they learn English
