2- ACTIVITY 1

Task 1 (10’)

-Show the sentence :

 Tet is a festival. It occurs in late January or early February.

Or:Tet is a festival which occurs in late January or early February.

 -Explain: The second sentence tells us more about “a festival”. It modifies the noun before it. It is a relative clause with WHICH , a relative pronoun for things and subject of the verb.

- Ask the students to say complete sentences about the festival in the table, using relative clause.

Ex: Christmas is a festival which occurs on December 24th.

-Have the students look at this pair of sentences :

 Alexander Graham Bell is an inventor. He invented the telephone.

A. G. Bell is an inventor who invented the telephone.

-Explain: When it modifies a noun for people, we use WHO.

-Have the students take note :

 I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to use the adverb clauses of concession and the relative clauses.
- Help the students improve their speaking and writing skills.

- Have the students match the icons with the names of the festival. (handout)

- Have the students play the game “Lucky number” to do the Language Focus 1.Guide them to underline the noun in the first sentence and the word it refers to in the second one
- Get feedback and correct (oral)

b. This watch is a gift which was given to me by my aunt on my 14th birthday.
c. My friend Tom, who sings Western folk songs very well, can compose songs.
d. We often go to the town cultural house which always opens on public holidays.
e. I like reading books which tell about different peoples and their cultures.
f. On my Mum’s birthday my Dad gave her roses which were very sweet and beautiful.
g. Judy liked the full-moon festival which is celebrated in mid-fall very much.
h. Tomorrow I will go to the airport to meet my friends who come to stay with us during Christmas.
Task 3 (5’) 
- Have the students play the role of “me” to describe the people in the pictures, using relative pronouns.
Example:
S1: This is my family. Can you find me? I am the girl who is wearing a pink dress. Can you guess who my brother is?
S2: Your brother is the boy who is wearing a white T- shirt.
S1: You are right. My dad is the man who is standing behind me.
S2: And your mom is the woman who is sitting in an armchair.
S1: That’s right.
- Call on some students to demonstrate before the class.
3. ACTIVITY 2 
 II. Adverb clauses of concession.
Task 1 (5’)
- Set the scene: What do you often do when you are tired? You often take a rest or go to bed.
 I’m tired, so I go to bed.
-Show the picture of Nam: How did he feel yesterday?
 Nam was tired, but he tried to study.
-Explain the structure : To talk about an opposite result, we can say:
→ Although Nam was tired, he tried to study.
→ Nam tired to study hard although he was tried.

Task 2 (5’)
- Have the students join the two sentences, using adverb clauses of concession.
Ex: Thu Ha is not satisfied with her preparations for Tet even though she has decorated her house and made plenty of cakes.

b. Although we don’t have a Mother’s day in Viet Nam, Dad and I have special gift and parties for my Mom every year on the 8th of March. 
c. We went to Ha Noi to watch the parade on the National Day last year even though we live in Nam Đinh.
d. Many tourists enjoy most of the festivals in Viet Nam, though they do not understand Vietnamese culture very much.
e. Even though in Australia Christmas season is in Summer, people enjoy Christmas as much as they do in other European countries.
f. Although Jim came to the show late due to the traffic jam, he could see the main part of the show.
Task 3 (5’)
- Have Ss look at the pictures on the page 72 – 73 and complete the sentences, using the correct tense of the verbs.
 Get feedback and correct (oral - written)

 Rewrite the sentences with the given words:
