Getting started - listen and read
A. Objectives:
* At the end of the lesson, students can read the text to understand the details.
* Contents: + Vocabulary: be impressed by; correspond; pray ; seem; depend on
 mausoleum, temple, mosque, atmosphere, peaceful, busy, modern,..
 + Grammar: The past simple; the past simple with wish. 
* Skills: + Listen and read then complete the task. 
 + Summarry the text. 
B. Teaching aids: CD-Player.
C. Teaching procedures:

Contents
I. Organization. (3’)
- Greeting and checking attendance.
II. Checking the old lesson. (2’)
(Optional)
-Introduce the topic of the lesson.(Now we will listen and read a story then get the information to complete the works.)
III. New lesson. (35’)
1. Presentation: 
- Let Ss look at the pictures.
+ Identification the places.
+ List famous places in Lao Cai.
+ Discuss where they will take their foreign friends to.
+ Example:
S1: I think I would take my friends to SPa.
S2: Good idea! And you should introduce about ‘Love-market’…
- Some Ss perform before the class.
- Guide Ss study the new words.
-Let the students skim the text and find out the words.
-Read, students repeat in chorus.
-Write on the board.
-Explain the meaning.
-Repeat again.
*Present the model sentence.
 Is the sentence express unreal present or past desire?( Present)
 What tense is used for the verb in the subordinate clause? (Past simple)
2. Practice: 
- Introduce the situation of the text.
- Let Ss read the first section.
- Let Ss listen to the text to find where Lan took Maryam to.
- Call some Ss to answer then write on the board.
- Ask them to read in silence and find the information to complete the sentences.
- Choose the correct option to complete the sentences.
3. Production:
- Call some Ss to read the text to check their pronunciation.

- Do exercise 7 in workbook.

* New words:
1. correspond (v) : trao đổi thư tín
2. be impressed (by) (v): ấn tượng bởi
3. pray (v): cầu nguyện
4. depend (on) (v): phụ thuộc vào
5. keep in touch (v): giữ liên lạc
6. a mosque (n) nhà thờ hồi giáo
7. atmosphere (n): không khí
8. peaceful (adj): yên bình
* Grammar: 
- Lan used to walk past the mosque on her way to primary school.
 Used to + V-in
- “ I wish you had a longer vacation”
(Wish sentences are used to express unreal present desire. The simple past tense is used for the verbs in the subordinate clause. For “be”, “were” is used with all I, She, He.
 S + wish(es) + S + V(past) + O
