1. New words:

Aim: To teach the vocabulary in the passage.

-T shows ss some pictures, use body gesture to recommend and motivate ss to guess new words.

-T gets ss listen and repeat new words.

- bodybuilding (n) /'bɔdi'bildiɳ/: môn thể hình.

- bronze (n) /brɔnz/ : đồng (huy chương).

PART A. READING
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
-Guess meaning in context.(Guessing the unknown words in the context)
-Scan for specific information.
-Comprehend the passage.
-Know more about the Asian Games.
1. Language:
Vocabulary: aquatic sports, bodybuilding, bronze, silver, athlete, fencing.
2. Skills: Integrated skill.
II. TEACHER AND STUDENTS’ PREPARATION:
Method: Communicative approach.
Techniques: Questioning and answering, repetition, individual, pair work, group work, choosing the correct answer, explanation.
Teaching aids needed: Textbook, chalk, blackboard, pictures, paper pieces, auxiliary boards(sub-board, extra-board,moveable board, portable board).
Students’ preparation: The lesson: “Reading”
PROCEDURE IN CLASS:
1. Stabilization: (2’)
 - Greeting
 -Checking absence: Who’s absent today?
2.Checking up previous knowledge: No (check while teaching)

 I. WARM UP (5’)
Aim: To revise some names of sports and lead in the new lesson.
-Asks some questions to lead in the topic “THE ASIAN GAMES”
+ “What is the biggest football event on the planet that has just taken place in Brazil?”
+ “How about the biggest sport event in Asia? ”
-> “Excellent! It’s the Asian Games. So now, I would like you to take part in the Asian Games by playing a game called Guessing game.”
-Lets ss play the game: “ Guessing game” 
-T prepares some pictures of sports in Asian Games.
-T calls some ss, shows them pictures and ask them to describe the sports without using words until the class can guess the sports.
- T shows pictures vocabulary for sports to the whole class: table tennis, weight lifting, body building, fencing.
-Ss answer those questions.
Expected answer: +“World Cup”
+”The Asian Games”
-Ss on duty try to decribe the sports with gesture, without words.
-Ss try to guess the sports.
II. PRE - READING

New words:

Aim: To predict about the content of the passage.
-Lets Ss work in pairs with their handouts to predict something about the Asian Games. (use 3 questions in the textbook).
-T asks for prediction.
-Ss guess, listen and repeat in choral and individual.
-Work in pairs.
-Expected answer:
+ “4 years”
+ “44 countries in the 14th Asian Games”/ 11 nations in the 1st Asian Games”
+”Football, swimming,”
-T checks the answers and asks them some question before teach them how to scan for specific information: “How do you know that?”, “Where did you get this information?”, “Is it in the passage?” , “How could you find the information about it in the text?”

Aim: To help Ss understand more about the passage & practise scanning for specific information.
-T asks ss to do Task 3 in textbook
-T gives ss some instruction about scanning for specific information:
“To scan the text for specific information effectly, you should read the questions first, highlight key words, locate them in the text and finally scan to find the answers. For example, key words might be “purpose” in question 1 and participants in the second question”.
-Reading time (5’)
-Lets ss answer three question in Task 3 and asks them “Where do you find the information from the passage?”, “Which line/sentence did you find the answer?”..
-Gets ss work in their tables, use the same techniques to complete the table in Task 2.
-Reading time (5’)
-Asks for answer:

2. the 2nd Asian Games in Manila, the Philippines.

4. squash, rugby, fencing and mountain biking.
5. 2002.
-T lets ss play the game “Who is the fastest” (task 1).
-T divides the class into 2 teams.
-T hangs 2 similar auxilary boards that contain incomplete sentences in Task 1, gives each team pieces of missing words without order.
-Asks them to stick the words on the boards correctly and as quick as possible.
