He started composing music when he was very young. He wrote the first song in 1939 and then quickly became famous. Tien Quan Ca, the National Anthem of Vietnam was written by Van Cao in 1944. Van Cao not only wrote songs and poems but also drew paintings. He died on July 10, 1995.
