Week 20 Date of pre : 22/12/2013 Date of teach : 30-4/1 /2014 UNIT: 6 THE ENVIRONMENT Period : 39 Part : Listen and Read I/Objectives: Getting started By the end of the lesson, students will be able to know more about the enviroment problems and the solutions. II . Language contents 1.Vocabulary: - deforestation, garbage dump, dynamite fishing, spraying pesticides, disappointed, sewage…… 2. Grammar structure: - Adverbs clauses of reason - Adjective + that clause. - Conditional sentences type 1 III/Techniques: Noughts and crosses, Gap fill, Predict dialogue, answer the question , Rub out and remember, lucky numbers, comprehension question IV/Teaching aids: text-book, , picture cards, cassettes V/Procedures: 1 Greeting : 2. Previous : Rewrite the words 3. New words *Act 1 : warm up ( Brainstorming ) To motivate Ss before starting the new lesson Ask Ss to think of the enviromental problems in their city. Get students to go to the board and write down their ideas Divide the class into 2 teams The team which has more right words will win the game. *Act 2 : Pre- reading ( vocabulary ) Have Ss repeat the words in chorus, then rub out word by word but leave the circle. Ask Ss to go to the board and write the words again in their correct circles. Ask Ss to look at the six pictures on page 47 in their text books. Ask Ss to keep the books closed. - Give Ss 1 minute to guess. * Task 2 : Prediction To help Ss reading and speaking skills - Ask Ss to open their books and read the text on page 47 & 48 * Set the scene: Mr Brown is talking to some volunteer conservationists. Guess the place where they are going to work. - Give feddback - Let Ss check their prediction Ask Ss to read the text again and work in pairs to match. * Task 3 : Answer To help Ss speaking skills Ask Ss to match the names in column A with the activities in column B (exercise 2a on page 48) - Let Ss read the text again and answer the questions - Give feedback. Ask Ss to work in pair to answer the questions on page 48 (exercise 2b) * Act 4 : Post –reading ( discussion ) To help Ss speaking skills - Who is the speaker ? - Who are the listeners ? - Who are they ? - What are they going to do? - What will they achieve if they work hard today? - Have you ever done anything similar? If yes, what did you do ? Where did you do it ? - If the pollution continues, what might happen ? Ask Ss to work in closed pairs. Environmental problem : air pollution * Key : - the destruction of the forests. - rubbish / garbage / trash.
