Nếu câu phát biểu ở thể xác định thì câu hỏi đuôi ở thể phủ định và ngược lại.
Mượn trợ động từ đối với động từ thường: do, does, don’t, doesn’t nếu động từ ở HTD; did / didn’t nếu động từ ở QKD; 
Lấy have, has, had để làm câu hỏi đuôi trong các thì hoàn thành; is, are, was, were trong các thì tiếp diễn.

Nothing, Nobody, No one được dùng trong mệnh đề chính, câu hỏi đuôi sẽ ở dạng thức khẳng định. (Vì Nothing, Nobody, No one có nghĩa phủ định)
Eg: 	Nothing gives you more pleasure than listening to music, does it ?
Khi trong câu nói có từ phủ định như: seldom, rarely, hardly, no, without, never, few, little phần đuôi sẽ ở dạng khẳng định.
 	Eg: 	He seldom goes to the movies, does he?
