I. Warm-up:

- Get Ss to display their homelink and express concerns with possible accidents.

II. New lesson:

3. Listen and tick:

- Have pupils look at the pictures on Page 21 and give them a few seconds to read the instruction and look at the pictures. Elicit their comments on possible accidents which can happen to the charcters in the pictures.Tell them the purpose of listening ( You are going to listen and tick the appropriate picture in each number) .

- Tell Ss that they do not need to understand every word. They should make guesses base on the pictures and the contextual clues as they listen.

- Play the recording twice: once for Ss to listen all the way through and once for them to do the task.( pause after each part for Ss to have sufficient time to tick the picture).

- Replay the recording for Ss to check their answers.

- Get Ss to correct the answers in pairs.( 1 minute)

- Ask some Ss to report their answers to the class.( If there is disagreement on any answer, play the related part of the recording again).

- Comment: Read out the correct answers to the class.

- Keys: 1c; 2c; 3b; 4.c.

UNIT 13: Accident Prevention
Lesson 1: Period 1 (part 1 and 2)
(Class: 5A, 5C, 5B, 5D)
I. Overview:
1. OBJECTIVES: 
-By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to express concerns with possible accidents and give responses.
2. LANGUAGE FOCUS:
a. Vocabulary:
+ swing, fall off, glide, bite, scratch, burn, lighter, break.
b. Sentence patterns:
+ Don’t ride too fast. You may fall off your bike. – OK. Thanks.
3. TEACHING AIDS:
- Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit 13, Page 20.
- Audio and visual aids: Recordings, flashcards, some pictures.
II. PROCEDURE:

I. Warm-up: 
- Ss play the game “Simon Says” with the words related to body parts.
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat.
Before listening:
- Have pupils to open their books on page 20. Focus their attention on the title of the unit, the pictures and the texts. Point to each picture and elicit students’ answers to identify the characters and get their comments on the pictures. Pre- teach the new vocabulary: fall off, scratch,burn, lighter.Write the new words on the board and get Ss to say the words a few times. Read each line in the pictures, pausing at times to check pupils’ comprehension. Make sure that Ss can understand the situation and the language in each picture.
While listening:
- Play the recording for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books.
- Play the recording twice again for pupils to repeat the lines.
- Have pupils read the lines in groups to take turn to say the lines from Mai, Jim, Nam, Tony and Jim’s mother.
- Have some groups repeat at front of the class, other pupils give comments.
- Feedback.
After listening:
- Let pupils listen and repeat once again.
2. Point ask and answer.
- Have Ss to open their book on page 20. 
- Get Ss to read the example and look at the pictures. Elicit their prompts to complete the speech bubbles.
- Get Ss to repeat each sentence a few times. Point to the pictures, read the prompts and check pupils’comprehension.
Teach the new vocabulary: swing, glide, bite, break. Write the words on the board and get Ss to say each word a few times.
- Model the task with the whole class .Point to picture a and say Ss: Don’t swing too fast. You may fall off the swing. Class: OK. Thanks.Call on a few open pairs go through the rest of the pictures. Focus on pronunciation and fluency.
- Have pupils practise in pairs ask and answer the question about possible accidents.
- Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation and offer help when necessary.
- Call on some pairs to perform the task in front of the class, others observe and give comments if possible.
- Feedback.
III. Summary
- We have learnt ask and answer questions about possible accidents.

-Pupils select a picture of caccidents in their book, copy and colour for the class display in the next lesson.

- Guide Ss to work in pairs (in five minutes)express concerns with possible accidents and giving responses using the pictures in this section. - Feed back: Call on some pairs to demonstrate the task in front of the class. T give remark or correct mistake(s).

2. LANGUAGE FOCUS:
- Phonics: ride, Jim.
3. TEACHING AIDS:
- Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit 13, Page 22.
- Audio and visual aids: Recordings, flashcards, a large-sized sheet of paper for phonic .

- Game: Slap the words (with the words in part 3, page 22)
II. New lesson:
1. Listen and repeat.
- Have pupils to open their books on page 22.
- Stick the large- sized sheet of paper with this section written on it on the board.
- Tell pupils they are going to learn how to produce the sounds of the letters ide as in ride and those of the letters im as in Jim.
- Produce the sound ide and im a few times and ask pupils to repeat ride, Jim.
- Play the recording twice. 
- Guide Ss practice reading ride, Jim. 
- Call on some Ss say the words in front of the class. T correct mistake(s).
- Have whole class read aloud the words.
 2. Listen and read together.
Before listening:
- Get SS to observe the pictures and read the chant. Elicit their comments on the pictures and the texts. 
- Read each line of the chant, stop at times to check students’ comprehension. 
- Have Ss repeat sentence by sentence.
- Model: read the chant, clapping: bike( 1 clap), Jim ( 2 claps), him( two claps), Tim ( two claps). Group the words into two columns on the board corresponding to the number of claps.
- Get Ss to clap in the same way as you read the dialogue again.
- While listening:
- Play the recording.
- Play the recording again for Ss to clap at the focused words.
After listening:
- Have Ss work in groups read the passage and clap their hands.
- Feed back: Call out some groups read the dialogues in front of the class. T give remark and correct mistake(s).

- Have pupils repeat the chant once more clap at the focused words.

+ side, glide, slide, decide.

- Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit 13, Page 22, 23.
- Audio and visual aids: Recordings, flashcards.

I. Warm up: 
- Have pupils recite the chant on Page 22, Lesson 2 and clap the syllables.
II. New lesson:
3. Group and say aloud.
- Have pupils to open their book on page 22. Get Ss to read the instruction, the chart and the word box. Check if Ss understand the meaning of the focus words. Ask Ss to guess all the complete words. Recall the meaning of the familiar words and teach the new ones: side, glide, slide, decide. Say each word and get Ss to repeat it a few times. Do the first example with the class. 
- Set time and let Ss do the task independently( in five minutes).
- Let pupils check their answers in pairs.
- Call on some pupils to report answers and the others give comments.
Answer: 
- ride: side, glide, decide, slide.
- Jim: slim, Tim, swim, him.
- Have the whole class read in chorus all the words in each column to reinforce their pronunciation.
4. Listen and number:
- Get Ss to open their books on page 23 and observe the pictures. Tell them the listening purpose.
- Point and elicit students’ comments on the pictures and draw their attention to the main point of the listening comprehension.
- Play the recording twice: once for Ss to listen all the way through and once for them to do the task. Pause after each part to give Ss sufficient time to select and write the number.
- Replay the recording for Ss to check their answers.
- Get Ss to check their answers in pairs. Call on a few Ss to report their answers to the class. If there is disagreement on any answer, play the related part of the recording again.

5. Fun time:
Play the game: A Matching game
- Ask Ss to open their books on page 23. 
- Tell Ss the activity purpose: You are going to play the matching game about Accident prevention. Do you know how to play it? Explain how to play the game.
Materials: Sets of words cards on which phrases such as play with a lighter, get a burn, ride too fast, fall off your bike, glide down the staircase, play with your neighbour’s dog or cat, and break your leg are written.
How to play the game: SS stick the cards in Don’t or You/ It may column corresponding to the content of their word cards.
- Set time in 3 minutes Ss play in pairs.
Get some pairs to take turn to read the phrases in Don’t and You/ It may column.
III. Summary. 
- T sum up the lesson.
IV. Homelink. 
- Ss make some words cards and colour them for the matching game to be played in the next lesson.
