I. Warm-up:

- Get Ss to display their homelink and read aloud the parts of the body.

II. New lesson:

3. Listen and tick:

- Have pupils look at the pictures on Page 7 and give them a few seconds to read the instruction and look at the pictures. Tell them the purpose of listening ( You are going to listen to some people talking about their illnesses. You should tick the appropriate picture in each number) .

- Recall the familiar vocabulary and pre-teach the new one.

- Tell Ss that they do not need to understand every word. They should make guesses base on the pictures and the contextual clues as they listen.

- Play the recording twice: once for Ss to listen all the way through and once for them to do the task.( pause after each part for Ss to have sufficient time to tick the picture).

- Replay the recording for Ss to check their answers.

- Get Ss to correct the answers in pairs.( 1 minute)

- Ask some Ss to report their answers to the class.( If there is disagreement on any answer, play the related part of the recording again).

- Comment: Read out the correct answers to the class.

- Keys: 1c; 2a; 3b; 4.c.

4.Talk:

- Ask Ss to open their book on page7, look at the pictures. Get them to read the instruction and make sure they understand the activity. Point to each picture and elicit students’ answers to identify the characters then ask and answer questions about his or her health problems.

- Do the first Eg with the whole class in order to give them a clear idea of how the activity works.

- Guide Ss to work in pairs ask and answer questions about health problems using the picture in this section. They can freely make use of the language they have learnt previously combining with the new one in the unit.

- Feed back: Call on some pairs to demonstrate the task in front of the class. T give remark or correct mistake(s).

III. Summary.

- In this lesson you have learnt to ask and answer question about common health problems.

UNIT ELEVEN: WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU?
Lesson 1: Period 1 (part 1 and 2)

I. Overview:
1. OBJECTIVES: 
-By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to ask and answer questions about common health problems.
2. LANGUAGE FOCUS:
a. Vocabulary:
+ headache, temperature, take, earache, backache, toothache, sore throat, stomachache, cold.
b. Sentence patterns:
+ What’s the matter with you? - I’ve got a headache.
3. TEACHING AIDS:
- Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit 11, Page 6.
- Audio and visual aids: Recordings, flashcards, some pictures.
II. PROCEDURE:

I. Warm-up: 
- Ss sing the song “ Head and Shoulder”
II. New lesson:
1. Look, listen and repeat.
Before listening:
- Have pupils to open their books on page 6. Focus their attention on the title of the unit, the pictures and the texts. Set the context: Tom is late for breakfast. Mrs Green is coming to his bedroom. Point to each picture and elicit students’ answers to what is happening in the picture. Pre- teach the new vocabulary: What’s the matter, headache, temperature, take. Write the new words on the board and get Ss to say the words a few times. Use a mixture of English and Vietnamese to help Ss understand the context and the language if they seem confused. Read each line in the pictures, pausing at times to check pupils’ comprehension. Make sure that Ss can understand the situation and the language in each picture.
While listening:
- Play the recording for pupils to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books.
- Play the recording twice again for pupils to repeat the lines.
- Have pupils read the lines in groups to take turn to say the lines from Tom Mrs Green, Mrs Green and the doctor.
- Have some groups repeat at front of the class, other pupils give comments.
- Feedback.
After listening:
- Let pupils listen and repeat once again.
2. Point ask and answer.
- Have Ss to open their book on page 6. Set the context: We are going to practise asking and answering questions about common health problems.
- Get Ss to read the example and look at the pictures. Elicit their prompts to complete the speech bubbles.
- Write the question and answer on the board and get Ss to repeat them a few times.
+ What’s the matter with you? 
 - I’ve got a headache.
- Ask Ss to look at the rest of the pictures in this section and read the prompts under them.
Teach the new vocabulary: earache, backache, toothache, sore throat, stomachache, cold. Write the words on the board and get Ss to say each word a few times.
Note: 
“ache” is use to form a compound noun like: headache, toothache, earache, stomachache and backache.
“hurt” is a verb. e.g My leg hurts.
“sore” is used in a noun phrase, e.g. sore eye, sore arm, sore throat.
- Model the task with the whole class. .Point to picture a and ask Ss: What’s the matter with you? Class: I’ve got a headache .Call on a few open pairs go through the rest of the pictures. Focus on pronunciation and fluency.
- Have pupils practise in pairs ask and answer the question about health problems.
- Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation and offer help when necessary.
- Call on some pairs to perform the task in front of the class, others observe and give comments if possible.
- Feedback.
III. Summary
- We have learnt ask and answer questions about health problems.

- Have pupils draw a simple picture of the body and name the body parts they have learnt.

2. LANGUAGE FOCUS:

- Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit 11, Page 8.

- Have pupils to open their books on page 8.
- Stick the large- sized sheet of paper with this section written on it on the board.
- Tell pupils they are going to learn how to produce the sounds of the letters arm as in arm and those of the letters ear as in ear.
- Produce the sound arm and ear a few times and ask pupils to repeat arm, ear .
- Play the recording twice. 
- Guide Ss practice reading arm, ear 
- Call on some Ss say the words in front of the class. T correct mistake(s).
- Have whole class read aloud the words.
 2. Listen and read together.
Before listening:
- Have pupils look at pictures in part 2. Ask Ss to identify the activity in the picture. Then ask Ss to predict what the chant is about. Set the context: You are going to hear a chant about part of the body. 
- Recall the familiar vocabulary and pre-teach the new words: appear, above, hear, loud, clear. Write the new words on the board and get Ss to repeat them a few times.
- Read each line of the chant, stop at times to check students’ comprehension. 
- Have Ss repeat sentence by sentence.
- Model: read the chant, clapping: arm( 1 clap), farm ( 1 clap), hear ( 2 claps), ear( two claps), clear ( two claps) appear ( two claps) . Group the words into two columns on the board corresponding to the number of claps.
- Get Ss to clap in the same way as you read the dialogue again.
- While listening:
- Play the recording.
- Play the recording again for Ss to clap at the focused words.
After listening:
- Have Ss work in groups read the passage and clap their hands.
- Feed back: Call out some groups read the dialogues in front of the class. T give remark and correct mistake(s).
 III. Follow-up:
- Have pupils repeat the chant once more clap at the focused words.

+ alarm, charm, terrible, carry, voice, ill, few, stay.
3. TEACHING AIDS:
- Student Book : Tieng Anh 5, Unit 11, Page 8, 9.

I. Warm up: 
- Have pupils recite the chant on Page 8, Lesson 2 and clap the syllables.
II. New lesson:
3. Group and say aloud.
- Have pupils to open their book on page 8. Get Ss to read the instruction, the chart and the word box . Check if Ss understand the activities and the meaning of the focus words. Ask Ss to guess all the complete words . Recall the meaning of the familiar words and teach the new ones: alarm, charm. Say each word and get Ss to repeat it a few times. Do the first example with the class. 
- Set time and let Ss do the task independently( in five minutes).
- Let pupils check their answers in pairs.
- Call on some pupils to report answers and the others give comments.
Answer: 
- arm: alarm, farmer, farm, charm.
- ear: dear, clear, near, hear.
- Have the whole class read in chorus all the words in each column to reinforce their pronunciation.
4. Listen and number:
- Get Ss to open their books on page 9. Tell them the purpose of listening: You are going to hear five dialogues. The speakers in these dialogues are talking about some common health problem. You should number the pictures as you listen.
- Point and elicit students’ answer to each picture. (What do you see in picture a/b/c/d?)
- Recall the familiar vocabulary and pre-teach the key words for Ss to understand the text :terrible, carry, voice, ill, few, stay. Write them on the board for Ss to repeat a few times. Tell Ss not to worry if they do not understand every word. Ss should focus on the order of the text as they hear.
- Play the recording twice: once for Ss to listen all the way through and once for them to do the task. Pause after each part to give Ss sufficient time to select and write the number.
- Replay the recording for Ss to check their answers.
- Get Ss to check their answers in pairs. Call on a few Ss to report their answers to the class. If there is disagreement on any answer, play the related part of the recording again.
Answer: a. 5 b.1 c. 4 d. 2 e. 3 
5. Fun time:
Play the game: Simon says.
- Ask Ss to open their books on page 9. Stick the large-sized sheet of paper with the game Simon says on it on the board.
- Tell Ss the activity purpose: You are going to play the game Simon says.
- Explain the game. Point to the picture and ask Ss to comment what they see.
- Pre- teach some expressions for Ss to play the game: hold up your hands, turn left, close your eyes, touch your head. Write the expressions on the board and get Ss to repeat these words a few times. 
- Divide the class into groups of 8. One pupil acts as Simon to say the expressions. The others do the actions. The pupils who have the correct action will stay in the group. If not, they are out.
- The group with the most pupils left wins.
III. Summary. 
- T sum up the lesson.
IV. Homelink. 
- Ss practise saying the expressions to play the game Simon says at home.
- Recite the chant.
