- Have students open their book and look at part 1: Look, listen and repeat on page 6.
- Ask students some questions:
+ Who is he/she?
+ Who are they?
+ Where are they? Are they at school or park?
+ Can you guess what they are doing?
- Stick characters of each picture on the board.
- Explain what happens in each picture.
- Write the dialogs of each picture on the board.
- Play the CD 1st for students to listen and point.
- Play the CD 2nd for students to listen and repeat.
- Have the whole class say aloud one more time.
- Devide the class into 2 teams: team Moon and team Sun.
- Picture a, have team Moon be Mai and team Sun be Nam. Then, change the roles.
Lesson plan grade 3 Unit 1: Hello Lesson 1 Period 1 Week 1 Time: 35-40 minutes Overview Objectives: By the end of the period, students will be able to use the words and phrases related to the topic Introduction. greet others and introduce themselves, using Hello/ Hi. I’m + (name). Topic – Language target: Vocabulary: hi, hello, I’m. Nice to meet you. Sentence patterns: Hello/ Hi. I’m Mai. Teaching methods: communicative approach and other methods. Teaching aids: Teacher: Teacher’s book, class book, puppets, CD and CD player. Students: Student’s book, Workbook, notebook and other school things. Procedure Steps Aims Learning activities Language focus Modes Warm-up (4 minutes) To make a friendly atmosphere and help students get ready to study. Greet the class by saying Hello. Encourage students to answer with Hello. Introduce teacher’s name to the class by saying: I’m Miss Ha. Call on some students to stand up and introduce their names. Introduce the lesson that they are going to learn. Whole class Individuals. Look, listen and repeat (9 minutes) To give students a chance to practise introducing themselves and responding to the introduction. Have students open their book and look at part 1: Look, listen and repeat on page 6. Ask students some questions: + Who is he/she? + Who are they? + Where are they? Have students work in pairs to practise the 2 dialogs. Call on some pairs to role play. Correct the pronunciation if necessary. Give 2 stars for good performance. - Whole class - Groups - Pairs Point and say (15 minutes) To give students a chance to practise saying Hello/ Hi. I’m + (name) and responding to the greeting. Teaching new model sentence: Set the scene: + Look at the picture a again. + What does Mai say to Nam? + Then, what does Nam say to Mai? Explain new model sentence: to greet others and introduce yourself, you say: Hello/ Hi. I’m + name or Hello/ Hi. I am + name. Write the new model sentence on the board and explain the full form and short form. Ask the whole class say the new model sentence aloud. Ask each team say the new model sentence aloud. Call some students to say the new model sentence aloud. Correct the pronounciation and intonation if necessary. Give 1 star for good performances. Practice new model sentence: Stick the characters in part 2 on the board and elicit his/ her name. Point to each character and have students say aloud, using: + Hello. I’m _____. + Hello, ______. I’m ______. Play the game: “Throw the ball” + Draw a bull’s eye on the board. + Call 1 student from each team to go to the board. + Have the students say the dialog. + Correct the pronunciation if necessary. + Let each student throw the ball on the bull’s eye to know how many stars he/she has got. Hello/ Hi. I’m + name. Hello/ Hi. I am + name. Whole class Teams Pairs Let’s talk (5 minutes) To give students a chance to practise more with their friends. Play the game: “The train” Teacher greets and introduces herself to the class. Then, teacher throws the ball to 1 student and he/she has to respond to the greeting by using the new model sentence. After that, the student throws the ball to the next student and so on. Correct the pronunciation if necessary. Individuals Home-link (2 minutes) To give students a chance to practise more at home.
