2. Presentation (10’)

 Activity 1:

- Ask Ss to listen the dialogue.

- T introduces the content of the dialogue.

- Show the picture on the board and then elicit vocabulary.

- Asks Ss some questions

+ What are they doing?

+ What festival is in this picture?

+ What is this?

- Explain some new words.

- Guides Ss to read new words.

 Activity 2:

- Have Ss read the dialogue twice, then answer the question.

- Elicit structure from the answer.

- Explains the compound words.

- gives Ss to do exercise

- ask Ss to match A with B for correct mean

Unit 13: FESTIVALS
Lesson 1: Getting started & Listen and read
Period: 79
I. Objectives:
- Help students to read for detail about traditional festivals and talk about the Vietnamese traditional festivals.
- By the end of the lesson students will be able to understand the content of the dialogue and get practice in making compound words.
II. Contents. 
Vocabulary: water-fetching, fire-making, teammate, separate, council, yell, husk, judge.
 Structures: Compound words: Adjective compound = N+ V-ing
III. Teaching aids: Books and notebooks, cardboards, posters.

1. Warm up (7’)
-T Ask Ss to look at the pictures and match the names with correct places.
Teacher guides Students how to do exercise and ask students to give some places where that people should go to visit.
T makes a dialogue model then asks Ss to work in pairs.
Gives some cues.
I- Getting started
Ben Thanh market
 Hoi An Bat Trang
 Sa Pa Nha Trang
1, Tom should go to Nha Trang because there are beaches.
2, David should go to Hoi An
3. He should go to Sa Pa.
4. He should go to Bat Trang Village
5. He should go to Ben Thanh market.
Eg:
A. Tom likes swimming and sunbathing, so where should he go?
B. He should go to Nha Trang
A. Why?
B. Because, it has many beautiful beaches.
Cues: Hoi An / ancient town.
- Sa pa / many high mountain.
- Bat Trang / pottery village.
- Ben Thanh market / crowed.
- Observe and match

- Ask Ss to listen and repeat
- Ask Ss to read in pairs (2').

- T asks some questions about the content of the dialogue.
- T asks Ss to work in pairs to answer 5 questions about the festivals.
- T calls on Ss answer
- T checks and gives the key.

b.There are 3 competitions: water- fetching, fire- making, and rice- cooking.
c.They made a fire by rubbing pieces of bamboo together.
d. The judges try the finished products and the most delicious rice is the winner.

4. Production(5’)
-T asks Ss to fill the best word in the blank.

EX3: Complete the passage:
There are three competitions in a rice – cooking festival :(1)  , fire – making and rice –cooking .In the water – fetching contest one person from each team had to (2)  to the river to get the water. In the (3)  contest two team members had to make a fire in the (4)  way. They tried to rub pieces of (5) together to make the fire. (6)  people from each team took part in the rice – cooking contest. They had to (7) the rice from the husk and then (8) .. .the rice.
