1) Warm-up:

Game: Lucky numbers

There’s a key word under the each number, and each key word contains a key letter. There are 8 questions for 8 numbers and 2 special numbers that can either double the score or remove your total score.

2. What kind of book does the Harry Potter series belong to? FICTION

3. Name the three chipmunks. Who is the oldest? ALVIN (Alvin, Simon, and Theodore)

Skill: improve their basic listening skills: listening for gist and listening for specific information.
Vocabulary: learn some new vocabulary in the dialogue.

IV. POST-LISTENING:
 Communication task 
Work in your own groups and invite your friends to go out to some places next week. Then write your plan on the calendar.
IV. HOMEWORK:

Game: Lucky numbers
- Divides the class into 4 groups.
- Explains the rule of the game: “ Each group will take turn to choose a number and answer the question behind that number. If you can give the right answer, you will get the points given to each number. If you lucky enough, you can double your score. However, if you open a LOSE ALL box, all your score will be gone. After all the cues have been opened, you have to rearrange the key letters to come up with the key word. After opening 5 numbers, you can answer the key word. The winner will be the group with the highest score.”
- Lets the students play the game.
- States the winner.
- Introduces the lesson: “We often write our plans on a calendar to remind ourselves of important things or events. Today, we’ll listen to a dialogue between 2 students and find out what they plan for the next week.”
Question (main idea)
- Gives instruction: “Listen to the tape once and try to answer the question.”
- Plays the tape.
- Calls one student to answer the question.
- Plays the tape again and pause at the beginning of the dialogue to check the answer.
Calendar completion
- Gives instruction: “Work in pairs. Listen to the tape 2 more times and fill in the calendar with the information you hear. After that, I’ll give you 1 minute to finish your work.”
- Plays the tape and walks around to monitor the class.
- Asks some questions about the calendar and has the 4 groups raise their signboards to win the chance to answer; gives them 5 points for 1 correct answer.
- Plays the tape again then pause at some parts to check the students’ answers.
- Asks: “On what day can they meet?” and has the students raise their signboards to answer.
- Corrects the student’s answer.
Communication task
- Gives instruction: “Work in your own groups and invite your friends to go out to some places next week. Then write your plan on the calendar. You have 3 minutes to complete the task. After 3 minutes, I will call some students randomly from the 4 groups and check how many dates you’ve got to give you scores.”
- Lets the students do the task and walks around to monitor.
- Calls some students randomly from the 4 groups and check how many dates they’ve got to give the scores.
