Week: 20 Period: 75 Date of preparation: 09/01/2016 Date of teaching: UNIT 11: WHAT TIME IS IT? Lesson 3: Part 1-2-3 I. Objectives: Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson, Ps will be able to pronounce the sounds of the letters oo in the words cook, book, noon and school respectively. 2. Skills: - Develop Ps writing and listening skills 3. Language focus: - Vocabulary and structures: Review - Phonics: cook, book, noon and school II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette. 2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Play game: Pass the secret! II. New lesson: Listen and repeat - Tell Ps that they are going to practice saying the sounds of the letters oo in the words cook, book, noon and school respectively. - Introduce the sounds /oo/ - Open the tape and have the Ps listen the sound of the words. - Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking 2. Listen and write. Then say aloud - Tell Ps that they are going to listen to the recording to write the words in the blanks of the sentences. - Have Ps look at 4 sentences on page 10 and guess the words to fill in the blanks. - Have Ps listen to the recording 2 times and write the appropriate words in the blanks - Play the recording again for Ps to check their answers. - Get pupils to read the sentences aloud. Key: 1.book 2.school 3.cook 4.noon 3. Let’s chant - Tell Ps that they are going to say the chant “What time do you go to school?” - Have Ps read then chant and check comprehension. - Play the recording a few times for Ps to do choral and individual repetition. Show them how to chant and do actions. - Put the class into two groups to practice chanting and doing actions. Each of the groups should sing one verse of the chant. Go around and offer help, if necessary. - Call two pairs to the front of the class to chant and do actions. The rest of the class claps along to the rhythm. - Have class chant again to reinforce their pronunciation. III. Consolidation - Summary the lesson IV. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Read the “What time do you go to school?” chant II. New lesson: 4. Read and complete - Tell Ps that they are going to read the text about Phong’s daily routine and complete the sentences. - Get Ps to read the paragraph. Tell them that they have to fill in the blanks with the times that Phong does the activities. Then ask them to read the text and find the appropriate times/ words to fill the gaps. - Ask Ps to do the task (fill the suitable words) - Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary - Have Ps trade the answers in pairs for correction - Call on some Ps to report their answers. Others listen and comment. - Make a few questions to check Ps’ comprehension of the sentences. - Have the whole class read each sentence of the paragraph in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation Answers:1.seven 2.five o’clock 3.has dinner 4.goes to bed 5. Let’s write - Tell Ps that they are going to write a short paragraph about Linda’s daily routine, using the picture cues. - Have Ps work in pairs or groups to discuss what they are going to write. Focus Ps on what activities Linda does and the time she does these activities by looking at the clock. Remind them to write the verbs in the third person singular (Ex: has breakfast, goes to school, watches TV, goes to bed). Check comprehension. - Ask Ps to do the task. T goes around and offers help. - Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class. - Ask Ps to read the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give comments. Answers: She has breakfast at six forty-five. She goes to school at seven. She watches TV at eight thirty. And she goes to bed at nine fifteen. 6. Project - Tell Ps that they are going to do a project about their daily routine. - Give each P a card. Have Ps copy the table from the book onto their cards. - Ask Ps to write the information about themselves. - Get Ps to swap their cards in pairs. They should look at their partners’ cards and describe their daily routines. - Call some Ps to the front of the class to tell the class about their partners. - T gives comments. III.
