Week: 15 Period: 57 Date of preparation: 28/11/2015 Date of teaching: UNIT 9: WHAT ARE THEY DOING? Lesson 2: Part 4-5-6 I. Objectives: 1. Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask and answer questions about what people are doing. 2. Skills: - Develop Ss reading, writing and listening skills 3. Language focus: - Vocabulary: Review II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette. 2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Play the game: Order the words II. New lesson: 4. Listen and number - Have pupils look at 4 pictures on page 61. Elicit the identification of the characters in the pictures and the characters’ words. Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the pictures they hear. - Open the tape and listen the sound of the words - Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ss to listen and number. - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. Answer keys: 1.d 2.a 3.c 4.b 5. Look and write - Set the scene: “you are going to answer the questions, using the picture cues.” - Ask Ss to look at the pictures and do the task (answer the questions) - Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary - Have Ss trade the answers in pairs for correction - Call on some Ss to report their answers. Others listen and comment. - Make a few questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the sentences. - Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation Answers: 1.They are painting a mask. 2. They are making kites. 3. They are making paper planes. 4. They are making a paper house. Let’s sing: - Put the large piece of paper with the song “What are they doing?”, written on it and stick on the board. Tell pupils that they are going to sing the Song. - Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words. - Play the tape again for pupils to sing each line of the rhythm. Have pupils point to the corresponding words while they are repeating. - Ask Ss to sing in choral - Have Ss practice singing in groups. - Call on one group to perform the song at the front of the class. The rest of the class sing the song and clap the rhythm. - Have class sing the song again to reinforce their pronunciation. III. Consolidation - Summary the lesson IV. Skills: - Develop Ss writing and listening skills 3. Language focus: - Vocabulary and structures: Review - Phonics: subject and subjects. II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette. 2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Sing the song: What are they doing? II. New lesson: Listen and repeat - Focus Ps’ attention on the letters colored differently in the words mask and text. - Introduce the sounds /sk/ and /xt/. - Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words. - Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking 2. Listen and tick. Then write and say aloud. - Have Ss look at the sentences on page 62. - Tell Ss that they are going to listen to the recording, tick the correct answers and write the words in the blanks. - Give Ss a few seconds to read the sentences in silence and guess the words to fill the gaps. - Play the recording 2 times for Ss to listen and tick, then write in the blanks - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. - Get pupils to read the sentences aloud. Let’s chant - Introduce the chant “What’s he doing?” - Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words. - Play the tape again for pupils to read each line of the Chant. Have pupils point to the corresponding words while they are repeating. - Ask Ss to chant in choral - Have Ss practice chanting in groups. - The Ss chant and do the action. - Call on one group to perform the song at the front of the class. The rest of the class sing the song and clap the rhythm. - Have class chant again to reinforce their pronunciation. III. Consolidation - Summary the lesson IV. Skills: - Develop Ss writing and listening skills 3. Language focus: - Vocabulary and structures: review II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette. 2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Read the “What’s he doing?” chant II. New lesson: 4. Read and tick - T introduces the scene “you are going to read the paragraph and tick the T or F”. - Ask Ss to read the paragraph and do the task (tick) - Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary - Have Ss trade the answers in pairs for correction - Call on some Ss to report their answers. Others listen and comment. - Make a few questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the sentences. - Have the whole class read each sentence of the paragraph in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation Answers:1.F 2.F 3.F 4.T 5.F 5. Write about the picture - Tell Ss that they are going to fill the gaps, using the picture cues. - Have Ss work in pairs to discuss what they are going to write. Check comprehension. - Ask Ss to do the task. T go around for help when they do the task independently. - Get them to swap the answers before checking as a class. - Ask Ss to read the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give comments. Answers: drawing a mask making puppets/ paiting masks painting houses/ making a kite 6. Project - Tell Ss that they are going to choose a photo of their family and describe what each of the family members is doing in the photo. - Ask Ss to look at their photos and find out what each person is doing. Then they should think of the words needed to describe the picture and make notes. Ex: mum-cooking, kitchen; dad - reading, living room; sister - learning English, living room. - Get some Ss to do a demonstration in front of the class as an example before starting the activity.
