Lesson 3: 1, 2, 3

A. Aim: By the end of the lesson, sts will be able to:

- Pronounce the sound: /t/ and /y/ in the words: Tony, Yes correctly.

- Listen and write the correct words.

- Say the chant: Is that Nam? Beautifully.

B. Language focus

- Phonics: /t/, /y/.

- Structure: Review.

C. Resources:

Books, teachers’ book, notebooks, cards and cassette.

D. Procedure:

I. Warm up.

* Game: Rainbow

- Some pupils make two lines. Two first ones from each team hold hands. Some others go through the hands when the music plays. As the music stops, the ones who are the rainbow must point to one picture and ask: Is that Tony? .The one who is caught must answer: “Yes, it is. Or No, it isn’t”.

- Lead in the new lesson.

II. New lesson

1. Listen and repeat

- Have sts to open the book page 22, draw their attention to the letters colored differently in the words Yes and Tony

- Produce the sound of the letter /y/ and / t/ a few times as a model.

- Give instruction.

- Have sts repeat the focused sounds a few times.

- Play the recording twice and ask sts to repeat.

- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary/ correct typical pronunciation errors.

- Call on someone to pronounce.

- Have the whole class recite the chant to reinforce their pronunciation.

2. Listen and write

- Run through and set the scene.

- Give instruction.

- Play the recording all the way through.

- Ask sts to listen again and write the answers.

- Play once more times for sts to check their answers.

- Call someone to write on the board, check sts’ notebook.

- Check and correct mistakes.

- Ask sts to read aloud 2 sentences.

- Have sts to act out the dialogue in pairs or groups for correction.

- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.

3. Let’s chant

- Introduce the chant “Is that Nam?”

- Turn on the tape.

- Ask sts to listen to the tape and repeat the chant.

- Let sts chant in groups and individual.

- Have sts to chant and do the action.

- Have sts to recite the chant again.

- Comment.

IV. Homework

- Ask sts to do exercises in their workbook.

D. Procedure:
I. Warm up.
*Game: Line – up
(Making sentences. Eg: This is Tony.)
- Lead in the new lesson.	
II. New lesson
Listen and number
- Ask sts to tell about the differences between the pictures. 
- Give instruction.
- Play the tape all the way through for sts to listen.
- Ask sts to listen again and number. 
- Ask sts to compare with their partners.
- Call on some sts to check their answers.
- Give feedback by opening the tape once and check.

Read and complete.
- Tell sts that they are going to read ad fill the gaps with the appropriate words.
- Give sts few seconds to read the text in silence.
- Check comprehension and give feedback.
- Give sts time to do the task and go around and offer help if necessary
- Get sts to work in pairs.
- Get sts to swap and check their answers before checking as a class.
- Divide the class into two groups and get them to read aloud each character’s lines respectively.

D. Procedure:
I. Warm up.
- Ask sts to sing the chant “Is that Nam?”
- Lead in the new lesson.
II. New lesson
1. Read and complete.
- Ask sts to open their book on page 23.
- Give instruction.
- Make model a sentence for sts to understand.
- Ask sts to read the sentences individually and do the task.
- Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary.
- Ask sts to work in pairs. 
- Call on some sts to report their answers. 
- Make a few questions to check pupils’ comprehension of the dialogue.
- Have the whole class chorally read each line of the sentences to reinforce their pronunciation.

2. Look, read and write
- Ask sts to turn to next part. 
- Run through and give instruction.
- Ask sts do the task in pairs to complete the sentences.
- Move around to offer help.

3. Project
- Tell sts that they are going to choose a friend and draw a picture of her/ him. 
- Check their understanding. Give sts time to prepare school thing to carry out the project (pen +paper) and do the project in class.
- Get stt to work individually.
- Go around to offer help.
- Call several sts to stick their drawing on the wall of the classroom and present their drawing in front of the class. 
- Give feedback. 
III. Reinforcement 
- Have sts to work in pairs to ask and answer using Is that......name? Ys, it is/ No, It isn´t. It´s.............

- Have sts to further practice at home.

- Ask and answer questions about someone.
B. Language focus
- Vocabulary: Who, Mr, Miss, Mrs 
- Structure: Who’s that?- It’s Tony.
C. Resources:
Books, teachers’ book, notebooks, cards and cassette.
D. Procedure:
I. Warm up.
- Ask sts to ask and answer questions they learnt from unit 1, 2, 3.
- Comment.
- Lead in the new lesson.
II. New lesson
1. Look, listen and repeat.	
- Run through.
- Point to the P1 and ask sts to look at the text in speech bubbles. Use a poster or two character puppets to present the situation. 
- Explain the meaning of the language practised. 
Who: Ai
Mrs: bà
Mr: ông
Miss: cô
Note: Name’s = name is
 What’s= What is
- Play the recording all the way through for sts to listen, and point to the appropriate line in their books. 
- Play the recording again for sts to repeat the lines in the speech bubbles. Repeat the step a few times.
- Practise with sts.
- Call on four sts. One repeats Mai’s part, the other repeats Nam’s part.
- Have whole class repeat all the phrases a few times to reinforce their pronunciation. And do the same with the dialogue between Linda and Nam.
- Go round and check sts to be able to repeat and understand the dialogue.
2. Point and say
- Have sts to look at pictures on page 24. Elicit the characters in the pictures and their names. 
- Model sentence: Who’s that?
-It’s Tony.
- Ask pupils to guess and complete the speech bubbles.
- Make model: T – S; S – T; S1 – S2
- Ask sts to point the pictures and act out the dialogues. 
- Monitor the activity and offer help. 
- Correct pronunciation errors (stress, assimilation of sounds, intonation) when necessary.
- Call on some pairs to perform their task at the front of the class. The rest of the class observe and give comments.
- Have the whole to class repeat all the phrases in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation.
3. Let’s talk.
- Run through.
- Give instruction. 
- Get sts to work in groups of three to interact.
- Call a few pairs to practise in front of the class.
- Check ss’ pronunciation.
III. Reinforcement
- Ask sts to do further practise.
IV. Homework 
- Ask sts to learn new words by heart and practise asking and answering about someone.
