- Ask Ss questions about the illustration:

+ Who do you see in the picture?

+ What are they doing?

+ What do you think they are going to do with the gift?

- Tell Ss that they are going to listen to a conversation in a school library between three friends, Mai, Kevin and Maria.

- Let Ss predict what these friends will be talking about.

- Encourage and accept all types of predictions from Ss.

- T plays the recording and asks Ss to listen and pay attention to the text to understand the content.

- Ss listen and read along silently.

- T asks Ss to role- play to read aloud

- Tell Ss not to worry about new language items as they will have a chance to come back to them later on.

 UNIT 4: CARING FOR THOSE IN NEED
LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED
I. Class Description:
1. No of Ss: 42 	Male: 22	Female: 20
2. Level of Ss: Pre - inter
3. Other features: A number of Ss are in low-level of proficiency and reluctant to brainstorm ideas for Caring for those in need therefore, a scaffolding reading text is in need. 
II. Aims and Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
Knowledge: 
- Get to know the topic: vocabulary about people with disabilities; the past simple and the present.
(Lexical items: disability, blind, deaf, dumb, get around, integrate, campaign, charity, donate.
2. Skills: 
- Develop such as reading for general ideas and for specific information in a school about helping people with disabilities 
- Introduce the topic by asking Ss to talk about the photos of people with disabilities. Then elicit more ideas from Ss background knowledge.
- Encourage Ss to talk about disabled people’s achievements. Tell them to include respect for disabled people and donation to charities in their discussion.
	+ Identifying the meaning of words depending on the context 
 3. Attitudes:
 - To help Ss get started for Unit 4 with the topic "caring for those in need"
 - have responsible attitude towards helping people with disabilities.
 - To provide Ss some motivation

- In spite of having already known vocabulary and phrases about caring for those in need but they find it difficult to express themselves .

Aims: 
- Draw Ss’ attention to know about disabled 
- Activate Ss’ background knowledge of the caring for those in need

1. How do you call a person who can not speak?
2. How do you call a person who can not hear?
3.How do you call a person who can not see?
 How are deaf, dumb,blind persons called?
The student with the correct answer is given good marks.

Aims: To help Ss understand the non – disabled people perceive and treat people with disabilities.
Interaction: work individually, group work and
 Pair- work
-Ask Ss to think of their own answer to the question.
Eg: I think non-disabled people used to think that people with disabilities always need to be looked after. However, attitudes have changed. People with disabilities are now perceived as valued members of society.
-Ask Ss to work in groups of three or four to do this task
- Suggest some questions:
1. How do non-disabled people think about disabled one?
 2. Do you believe that disabled people can live independently and make their contributions to the society?
 3. Can you give some examples of people who overcome their disabilities to succeed in life?
 4.What should we do to help disabled people?
- Elicit some answers and write the best ones on the board 
- Give feedback and discuss any points.

-Nguyen Ngoc Ky, a famous teacher , his name was written in the Vietnam Genius Book for the first person to write by feet
- Nguyen Cong Hung became an IT expert, famous for his work with other disabled people. In 2008 he founded the “ Will to Live Center to provide free training to disabled people in IT.
- Nick Vujicic is a world-famous celebrity with a disability, and founder of Life Without Limbs - an organisation for people with physical disabilities

Many people think disabled people are burdens to their family and the society
I think non-disabled people used to think that people with disabilities always need to be looked after. However, attitudes have changed.
People with disabilities are now perceived as valued members of society.
We can listen to their problems, give them encouragements, and help them to overcome their difficulty.
