Week: 24 Period: 65 Date: 11/02 /2014 UNIT 11 : SOURCES OF ENERGY LESSON 4: WRITING I. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, ss will be able to write a description from a chart of energy consumption. II.TEACHING AIDS: textbook, pictures, handout. III.PROCEDURES: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. WARM- UP Pictures - T hangs the chart on the board - T asks ss to explain the information in the chart. 1. How many parts are there in the description? what are they? 2. What does the first part tell you? 3. What language items should you pay attention to in the second part/underline them 4.What does the last part tell you - T checks the answers and gives the feedback. - T leads into the lesson. II. PRE-WRITING * T elicits the tenses and the language which are used in the passage from Ss. TASK 2 - T lets ss read quickly the description of the chart and fill in the blank. The total energy consumption in 2005 was (1)________ million tons. Nuclear and Hydroelectricity made up the (2) _______ amount of energy consumption, about (3)_______million tons. (4)__________ made up as much used as coal, but it is not so much as nuclear and hydroelectricity. WHILE- WRITING - T asks some other groups to write a description, using the information in task 1 and 2. - T goes around and help if necessary - T lets ss to work individually in 10 minutes. IV. POST –WRITING -T gets feedback by asking some ss to read their work aloud. - T asks some other ss to give remarks. - T checks and gives the feedback. - If there is enough time, T can have ss exchange their writing among ss within a group so that they can check their friend’s work and give remarks V. HOMEWORK T asks ss to do the exercise on the handout. - Follow T’s requiring. - Look at the chart carefully and read the passage, contrast the chart with the passage to find out the missing information. - Answer the questions. - Listen to the teacher and take notes. - Listen to the teacher and contribute the lesson by answer the teacher’s elicit. - Take notes - Make examples. - Work in pairs and fill in the blank. à Expected answer 117 Coal Smallest - Work in groups. - Say out the answers à Expected answer 170 Largest 75 Petroleum Coal - Write the description to compare the energy consumption in the year 2000 and 2005. Example writing There was a trend in the consumption of coal and nuclear & hydroelectricity but there was a sharp decrease in the use of petroleum. The amount of coal used increased by 5 million tons and the consumption of nuclear & hydroelectricity went up dramatically by 55 million tons . However, the amount of petroleum consumed in 2005 fell by 7 million tons. - Take notes
