Skills: - Compare traditions and customs in the UK and Russia. - Talk about the popular food, drinks, sports festivals in Vietnam. 2. Language: - Know some new words related to the topic. - Practice epressing opinion about traditions and customs 3. Attitude: Absorb some different cultures around the world, be more interesting about culture of Vietnam. 4. Competence: Group work. II. Teaching aids: Textbook, Notebook, Projector.. III. Procedure Time/Stages Teacher Students(Ss) 1. Warm- up(5m) Students learn about cultures in Vietnam - Divides class into 2 groups. - Gives instructions: + Each group lists popular foods and drinks, popular sports and festivals in Vietnam in 1 minutes. + Members of each group will have 1 minute to write answers on the board. + One correct answer gets one point. The groups getting the most point win the game. - Checks and gives feedback. - Leads in the new lesson. - Listen to teacher. - Work in groups. - Lists popular foods and drinks, popular sports and festivals in Vietnam. + Write answers on the board as many as possible. 2. While- speaking (20m) - Ss have the knowledge about cultures of two foreign countries and the differences between them. Activity 2: “Tablecloth” activity (12m) Divides the class into groups of four Ss: - Asks two groups to read the text about the UK and the other two read the text about Russia in 3 minutes. - Gives each group a sheet of paper like this: - Read the text and find out a thing that impresses them in two countries’ traditions and customs - Know how to give opinion about those cultures. - Have skills of group working and expressing their points of view. 1 4 2 3 - “Tablecloth” activity: + After reading the text, each member of a group will write his/ her opinion about the most interesting/ strangest tradition of the UK or Russia in a numbered space. + Guides Ss the way to give opinion (write on the board): I think that . From my point of view * Agree: I agree with you Sounds interesting I couldn’t agree more * Disagree I don’t agree with you that I don’t think so - Listen to the Teacher. - Tell the teacher somes way to give their opinion that they have known. - Use the ways of expressing opinion that teacher has introduced to share their view with their partners. - Write the group’s opinion in the central. + Asks Ss share information with other members of their groups and try to use the way to give opinion above. + Asks Ss write the opinions of all member in the middle of paper. Task 2: Presentation (8m) - Asks one group learning about the UK and another learning about Russia to share about traditions and customs with each other - Encourages Ss to using the way to express opinion that they have learnt. - Asks Ss of other groups about what Ss have shared to check their attention. - Evaluates Ss’ performance. - 2 groups stands in front of class to share with each other. - See the differences between traditions of the UK and those of Russia. 4. Post – speaking (12m) Task 3: Vietnam culture - Have the Ss work in pairs. - Ask Ss to use the list of popular foods and drinks, popular sports, and festivals in Vietnam that they did in Warm-up. - Have Ss discuss and rank these items in the order of popularity. - After ranking, the Ss will prepare to present. - Pick 2 pairs to go to the board to report their ideas, and then give feedback. - Listen to the teacher. - Rank things in order of popularity. - Go to the board to present. 5. Homework (3m): Ask students to practice speaking at home.
