Techniques: + Memory game. + Group work, Pair work, individual work. + Reading skills: word-attack, skimming, scanning (top-down process). Teaching aids: chalks, black-board, pictures, word cards. Time: 45 minutes Procedures Greetings (1’) Review of the previous lesson (4’) Procedures Stages Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm-up 5’ Memory game: (see appendix A) T gives some instructions: In this game, I will take turn to show you 8 pictures in 30 seconds. Try to remember the names of 8 pictures. After I show all 8 pictures, students from 4 groups go to the board and write down the words in 1 minute. The fastest group which finds the right answers is the winner. Listen the rule carefully Work in group Play the game Key: 1. Reading books 2. Going shopping. 3. Listening to music. 4. Let’s move to our lesson today: Unit 13: Hobbies Reading Pre-teach vocabulary: T presents vocabulary to ss on the board by eliciting . Hobby (n) T says: “Hobby is the thing that you do regularly for pleasure in your free time.” accomplished (adj) (= well-trained, talented) T says: “Son Tung M-TP is an accomplished singer or I can say Son Tung M-TP is a talented singer.” Accompany (v) T shows a picture and says: “she is singing and he is accompanying her with the guitar.” Modest (adj) not very big, humble Avid (adj) marked by active interest and enthusiasm. “ an avid Kpop fan” Indulge in (v) take interest in Discard (v) throw away T uses body language to cue the meaning. Occupied (adj) busy Keep sb occupied Checking vocabulary: slap the board Rule:teacher puts the vocabulary items on the board in any order or jumbled. Teacher speaks out the definition, synonym or Vietnamese equivalents of the words, one by one. Ss go up facing the board. They listen and slap on the correct word each time they hear it. The first person in each group to slap the right word gets a point. The representative changes, ready for the next word. Gives feedback Lucky animals game -T shows eight animal pictures on the board. -T asks a member of each group to go to the board; T gives a sticker ball to him/her. - A member of groups takes turn to go to the board and throws a sticker ball into a random picture. There are 3 times of each group in order to throw into a picture. - Questions are opened for them to answer if Ss throw into a picture exactly. - In 20 seconds, the group has to give an answer. -There are six questions: 1. What is the writer's first hobby? A. keeping fish. B. collecting stamps. C. playing the guitar. 2. Why does the writer admire his uncle? Because: A. He is a world famous guitarist. B.
