Week: 16 Period: 61 Date of preparation: 05/12/2015 Date of teaching: UNIT 10: WHERE WERE YOU YESTERDAY? Lesson 1: Part 3-4-5 I. Objectives: Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to ask and answer questions about where someone was in the past. 2. Skills: - Develop Ss speaking and listening skills 3. Language focus: - Vocabulary and structures: review II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette. 2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Play the game “jumbled letters” II. New lesson: 4. Listen and tick - Have pupils look at the pictures on page 65. Elicit the identification of the characters in the pictures and the characters’ words. Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the pictures they hear. - Open the tape and listen the sound of the words - Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ss to listen and tick. - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. - Answers: 1c 2b 3a 5. Look and write - Have pupils look at 3 pictures on Page 65. Get Ss to identify the characters in the pictures. - Tell Ss that they are going to read and get information to answer the questions. - Ss read silently and complete the sentences. - Ss trade their answers within pairs or groups for correction - Ask Ss to read the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give comments. - Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the reading text. - Have the whole class read the sentences chorally to reinforce their pronunciation. Answers: 1.at home 2.in the school library 3.on the beach Let’s sing - Put the large piece of paper with the song “Where were you yesterday?”, written on it and stick on the board. Tell pupils that they are going to sing the Song. - Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words. - Play the tape again for pupils to sing each line of the rhythm. Have pupils point to the corresponding words while they are repeating. - Ask Ss to sing in choral - Have Ss practice singing in groups. - Call on one group to perform the song at the front of the class. The rest of the class sing the song and clap the rhythm. - Have class sing the song again to reinforce their pronunciation. III. Consolidation - Retell the content of the lesson. IV. Homework - Do exercises in the workbook. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette. 2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Sing the song “Where were you yesterday?” II. New lesson: 1. Look, listen and repeat - Ask Ss to identify the characters in 4 pictures on page 66 and ask: + Who are they? + Where are they? + And What are they talking about? - Teach some vocabularies: water the flower: tưới hoa watch TV: xem ti vi + Teacher read as a model and have the Ss repeat + Ask the Ss to repeat in groups, individuals - Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words. - Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking - Instruct Ss to translate the dialogue into Vietnamese. Point and say - Have Ss look at the pictures on page 60 - Instruct how to ask and answer questions about what people are doing. + Ask: What did you do yesterday? + Answer: I + V-ed + noun. - T practices as a model and ask Ss to practice in choral, groups and pairs. Correct Ss’ error pronunciation - Answer keys: a. What did you do yesterday? I played badminton. b. What did you do yesterday? I painted a picture. c. What did you do yesterday? I watered the flowers. Let’s talk: - Tell pupils that they are going to revise what they have learnt in Lessons 1 and 2, using facts about themselves. - Ask them to work in pairs and ask and answer the questions: Where were you yesterday? What did you do? - Call on a few pairs to role-play in front of the class. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. III. Consolidation: - Summary the lesson IV. Listen and number - Have pupils look at 3 pictures on page 67. Elicit the identification of the characters in the pictures and the characters’ words. Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the pictures they hear. - Open the tape and listen the sound of the words - Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ss to listen and number. - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. Look and write - Ask Ss to look at 3 pictures on page 67 and identify the characters. - Set the scene: “you are going to fill the suitable words in the gaps, using the picture cues.” - Ask Ss to look at the pictures and do the task (fill the gaps) - Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary - Have Ss trade the answers in pairs for correction - Call on some Ss to report their answers. Others listen and comment. - Make a few questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the sentences. - Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation Answers: 1.at home/ watered the flowers. 2.at home/ watched TV. 3.on the beach/ played football. Let’s play: - Tell Ss that they are going to play the game “Pelmanism”. Follow the procedure in Games in introduction. - Devide the class into groups of three. - T explain how to play the game: prepare two sets of cards for each group, one with activities in the present tense, and the other with the same activities in the past tense. First, one player in each group shuffles the cards and lays them face down on the table. Each player in turn selects two cards and turn them over. If the cards show the same activity in the present and past tenses, that player wins the pair and goes on to turn over another pair of cards. If the cards show different activities, that player should turn them face down again and the next player has a turn. The game ends when all the cards are gone. The winner is the player with the most pairs. - Call on one group to act out the game in front of the class. III. Consolidation - Summary the lesson IV. Lesson 3: Part 1-2-3 I. Objectives: Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to pronounce the sounds of the letters ed in the words played, watched and painted respectively. 2. Skills: - Develop Ss writing and listening skills 3. Language focus: - Vocabulary and structures: Review - Phonics: subject and subjects. II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, cassette. 2. Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks. III. Teaching processes: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities I. Warm up: Sing the song: What are they doing? II. New lesson: Listen and repeat - Focus Ps’ attention on the letters colored differently in the words played, watched and painted. - Introduce the sounds /ed/ - Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words. - Play the recording a few times for pupils to listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking 2. Listen and tick. Then say aloud - Have Ss look at the sentences on page 68. - Tell Ss that they are going to listen to the recording, tick the correct answers and write the words in the blanks. - Give Ss a few seconds to read the sentences in silence and guess the words to fill the gaps. - Play the recording 2 times for Ss to listen and tick, then write in the blanks - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. - Get pupils to read the sentences aloud. Key: 1./d/ 2./t/ 3./id/ 3. Let’s chant - Introduce the chant “What did he do yesterday?” - Open the tape and have the Ss listen the sound of the words. - Play the tape again for pupils to read each line of the Chant. Have pupils point to the corresponding words while they are repeating. - Ask Ss to chant in choral - Have Ss practice chanting in groups. - The Ss chant and do the action. - Call on one group to perform the song at the front of the class. The rest of the class sing the song and clap the rhythm. - Have class chant again to reinforce their pronunciation. III. Consolidation - Summary the lesson IV.
