 John Logie Baird, who is called “ the father of television “, was born in Scotland in 1888. He became an inventor at the age of 26. His first inventions were electrically-heated socks and air-filled shoes, but these were not very successful.
 However, in 1923, he became interested in the idea of pictures by radio. He worked for several months, and the following year he succeeded in transmitting the first “television” picture a few meters across the room.
 Baird’s television was not very clear, but people were very interested and he tried to make it better. In 1926, he showed it to the public at the Royal Society. In 1928, he transmitted the first picture across the Atlantic and in 1929, the BBC and the German post office began to broadcast TV with his system.

 Thanksgiving Day is a holiday that Americans celebrate the honor of everything the country offered to their ancestors, who was among the first immigrants to the USA. When they first came to America, they saw that there was enough food and opportunity for everyone. They were even helped by the Indians, who taught them how to grow all kinds of new vegetables, such as corns and sweet potatoes.
 On Thanksgiving Day, it’s traditional to eat a big meal together. The Americans eat food that was found here by their ancestors. They usually eat turkey with sweet potatoes, Indian corn bread, and have pumpkin pie for dessert. Every Thanksgiving Day, a giant parade is held by one of the famous department stores in New York. It’s an annual event. And at the end of the parade, children also see Santa Claus, who is visiting from the North Pole. Santa Claus is invited to remind children and parents that Christmas is not far away.
