INFINITIVES – GERUND
I. FULL INFINITIVE: To Vo
 VERBS + TO INFINITIVE
agree arrange attempt decide wish demand determine desire expect fail hope intend manage offer plan prepare pretend promise refuse want 
ex: He doesn’t want to know.
VERBS + OBJECTS + TO INFINITIVE 
ask advise allow ask want 
enable encourage expect invite warn 
order permit request tell 
ex: He advised me to leave here early. 
The first, second , the next ,the last, the only.+ to Vo
be allowed/ be permitted/ be recommended/ be advised + to Vo 
“ To- infinitive” dùng sau tính từ và một số cấu trúc như
- S + be + Adj + to Vo	
- It + be + Adj ( for + O) + to Vo
- S + be / Vt + too + Adj/ Adv + (for O) + to Vo
- S + be/ Vt + Adj / Adv + enough + to Vo	
- It + be + Adj + of + O+ to Vo.
- It takes/ took / cost + O + time/ money + to Vo
II. GERUND: V-ing
admit avoid consider delay deny enjoy finish keep mind miss suggest feel like postpone practise prevent quit resist risk 
ex: We enjoy playing football.
EXPRESSIONS FOLLOWED BY GERUND
- it’s no good ; it’s no use
- be used to	= get used to	= be accustomed to 
- look forward to	
- be busy / be worth 
- can’t help ; can’t bear ; can’t stand
- how about / what about
- there is no point (in)
- have difficulty (in) 
VERB + MONEY, TIME + GERUND
- spend ex: He spends most of his time (on) studying.
- waste ex: She wastes much money buying those clothes.
PREPOSITIONS ( in, at, on, of, for, with, without ) + V-ing
 ex: We can’t live without eating.
Go + Ving : go fishing, go swimming, go shopping
V-ING AFTER CONNECTOR WORDS SUCH AS : while, when, before, after
advise, recommend, encourage, allow, permit + O + to Vo
advise, recommend, encourage, allow, permit + V-ing
III. BARE INFINITIVES : Vo
let / make + O + Vo : để cho, khiến cho
had better/ would rather + Vo : tốt hơn nên
used to + Vo : đã từng
will you please/ would you please/ can you please/ could you please + Vo
modal verbs ( can/ could/ will/ would, must, have to) + Vo
Let’s + Vo : chúng ta hãy
but / except + Vo : nhưng/ ngoại trừ
