UNIT 4 : LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
LESSON 1: Getting started - Listen and read
I. OBJECTIVES: 
By the end of the lesson , Ss will be able to:
Know the ways to learn English and talk about their ways to learn English everyday.
Understand the Indirect Speech with Question words.
II. PREPARATIONS: Textbook, pictures, extra-boards, cassetle
III. PROCEDURES:

1/ Warm-up : (7’)
- Ask Ss some questions and let them answer.
 “Chatting”
How do you learn English?
Do you often do your English homework/ speak English with your friends/ use dictionary for reading/ read English stories?
- Ask Ss to work individual and check the things they do.
- Answer the question.
- Compare with a partner.
2/ Presentation: (15’)
$ Activity 1: 
- Hang the picture and the list of questions on the board (the list of questions on sub-board) and introduce.
“Lan is talking to Paola about the oral examination she has had. First, you look at the list of questions and guess what the examiner asked Lan”
- Let Ss go to the board and check the questions they guess.
$ Activity 2: 
- Teach new words.
I. Vocabulary:

(an) examiner	:	gi¸m kh¶o 
→ examinee: thí sinh
(a) candidate	:	thí sinh 	(antonym) ≠ examiner

- Look at the picture. 
- Guess the questions.
- Listen and copy down.
3/ Practice: (13’)
- Let Ss listen the tape again. (book opened)
- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs.
- Have some pairs practice before class.
- Have students read the dialogue again and find out the reported questions from the dialogue, compare it to the direct questions:
What is your name? 
Where do you come from? 
Do you speak any other languages? 
Why are you learning English?
How did you learn English in your country?
Read this passage?
- Listen to the tape.
- Practice the dialogue in pairs.
- Practice in front of class.
- Find out the reported questions from the dialogue.

® She asked me if I spoke any other languages
® She asked me why I was learning English?
®She asked me how I learnt English in my country. 
® She asked me to read that passage.
4/ Production: (8’)
- Elicit the form,use, meaning of the reported speech.
Forms:

5/ Homework: (2’)
